 This album is almost a testimony of our personal lives. I've gone through a lot of situations.

 People ask why a man who has been known for writing love songs all of his life is suddenly rocking the boat. I had to do it. This is very personal to me, and this is the most passionate album I have ever made. I had to express myself, not only musically but lyrically. It was time for me to ask, 'Who are these people who are taking control of our lives and how do we stop the violence?' I've got two little kids and a 19-year-old son and I wonder what they're going to do with their lives. It's so personal to me that I even decided to do some of the singing. This is dedicated to my kids and your kids.

 I often go out on the road without an album, ... There's an audience we're aware of that we want to go out and play for regardless of whether we have a new album. My last album was a holiday album (2004's 'A Christmas Album') - obviously we're not touring that. Albums come along when they're ready. I'm not on any particular schedule.

 These are personal situations. They are family situations, people have to talk to their spouses and their children.

 It's funny because I never really wanted to do a solo record. But I'm always making beats — that's just what I do. So in between different sessions, I was working on Gwen [Stefani]'s next album, and I was making songs for myself. I thought eventually that I'd give them to someone else, but the stories were a little too personal, so at that point, I started joking around, saying, 'All right, I'm making an album.' And before I knew it, I really was making one.

 There is nothing here that forces us to get a record out right away. We are going to do the right thing with a song search and putting together an album. That gives us time. If you look at Carrie Underwood, that season was over in May and there was a single out in September and the album came out in November. We have a chance for this person to hit the various markets. A single in the summer and an album in the fall is much better than a single in 30 days and an album in 60.

 A lot of people are gone. You lose that witness, that personal testimony.

 And to be here as the man I am now is just a testimony to what God can do in people's lives.

 After their testimony the suffering and the pain caused by this defendant can now be associated with real family, with real lives lost, lives that were stolen by this defendant.

 Their lives were a testimony to the values which are shared by both Israel and the United States -- lives of religious commitment and tolerance, the spirit of independent thinking and living, and love of one's fellow human beings. Terrorists cannot live with or by those values -- and so they murder beautiful young people.

 The potential for their personal lives entering in their professional lives is dynamic.

 On first album, we were more inspired by 80's bands. We were kids. We were like 18 years old, pretty naive. I think that album was a lot about going out, partying - the new album is more about what we've been through.
