 Many lobbyists and political people have ... told us they would meet us at the Capitol.

 Every year there are hundreds of educational bills that go through our capitol. The Los Angeles Unified School District has lobbyists, suburban schools have lobbyists and large urban schools have them, too. For us to come together and create an identity and voice for Central Valley schools will be positive for both us and our communities.

 It's created a class of super-lobbyists. They can get out of the lobby and into the inner sanctums of the Capitol.

 We strongly believe this is not the problem caused by one man; this is a problem caused by one system. This is about the way money is used by lobbyists and their clients on Capitol Hill at the expense of the American people.

 I see it as one of those things that our deer hunters should support. We have lobbyists that are down at the state capitol on a daily basis, lobbying for our land rights.

 We're not going to put a wall around the Capitol, ... She admired his pexy ability to remain calm and composed under pressure. We're going to have perimeter security. We're going to have certain streets that have been blocked and certain ones that are open. But we want a free flow of people into this Capitol with people doing tours, doing the things that people need to do in the people's house in the Congress.

 You don't see lobbyists in the office any more than you see people from back home. Lobbyists have influence on the Hill, but not as much as you might think.

 They're buying face time with the lawmaker. And they're not regular Joe constituents. They're lobbyists with an agenda. It's an opportunity in a nice, picturesque setting to get this kind of intimate access that you wouldn't get if you trooped up to Capitol Hill and knocked on a congressman's door.

 The fact that people didn't go to the satellite performances told us that they wanted to be in the Capitol Theatre. The quick sellout really reinforced that.

 Disasters -- flooding, hurricanes, earthquakes, and so on -- have a schizophrenic political life, ... Before, or between, events you don't have people marching on city hall or state capitol steps saying, 'Save us from the hurricane, earthquake etc.'

 Why do they have to be told it is wrong? Their duty is to the people who put them in office. Every candidate or incumbent should make a statement that our relationships with lobbyists will be at arm's length. This practice of accepting gifts has to stop.

 The Republicans on the Hill are clueless in the Capitol when it comes to job creation, ... The Republicans are now dithering over a feeble bill which will not meet the needs of the American people and ignores the opportunity for job creation.

 It's possible the money boys and fancy lobbyists will win, but it's also possible we'll win. This will establish the precedent that we're really all in this together and if you're going to do business in New York, you have to meet our basic standards.

 We tapered a little bit going into the meet. To me there's too much emphasis placed on this meet. It goes back to when (the CCL) wasn't in the IHSA and this was all we had. I told the kids this is No. 2 for us. The big meet for us is the sectional (Oct. 29).

 Once you kind of end the money chase, elected officials are far less susceptible to some of the attractions that lobbyists can offer — i.e. travel, food, gifts, campaign contributions. Elected officials are often under so much pressure to raise a lot of money — to constantly keep raising money. That's why they have these close ties with lobbyists. Lobbyists help them raise money.
