 By creating the Digital Fish Library, we hope to develop a tool that stimulates students to think independently and naturally leads them into questions that they might want to investigate. We hope to design an educational model that spurs students' interests and teaches them how to conduct research. It's not just teaching them about fish anatomy or physiology, it's teaching them about magnetic resonance imaging, computation and visualization.

 Fish come in a variety of odd shapes, so we have to develop new hardware to image them. Engineer Larry May at our center is building special coils for fish. We are also working on new ways of collecting data, since fish tissue can be very different from the tissues we typically image. By tailoring the technology we will further optimize our use of MRI, whether we're imaging cardiac muscle, brain tissue, cartilage or fish.

 There's no reason, in today's digital world, that we can't have a program here that has students making movies just as well as someone in Los Angeles or New York City. Location means little anymore with digital media. What students need to have are the tools to be competitive in the industry, and the teaching to know how to tell a good story. We can do those things as well as anybody.

 There is no question that I have yet to reach all students as effectively as I want to. It is in my nature to try new things — not all of which work for all students. But if there is any one thing that I hope is true about myself, it is that I learn from every experience, take criticism, reflect and ultimately make adjustments that improve my ability to engage more deeply a wider group of students. So, will I make changes to my teaching? Absolutely.

 We teach the vocabulary that teachers are teaching in the classroom to ELL students a few weeks ahead of time. Its known as 'priori-teaching,' which is a huge part of our teaching.

 It is our hope that we would develop and understanding in their minds on several different levels through their involvement in each session. We hope to not only develop an interest in these students but to also provide them with the tools they need to guide fellow students. They are examples of the type people who will be in Alabama's leadership 20 years from now.

 Our hope was to create a project that would focus our education students on their students' learning rather than just presenting material through teaching, as well as work on improving our teacher candidates' ability to assess learning.

 This is not just a pilot course. We will be teaching air traffic management, safety science and physiology. Very few of the students will undertake flight training.

 I can be teaching very basic things one day and the more advanced students will get bored. Or I could be teaching more advanced students and I lose the other kids. It can be very frustrating.

 'Skills for Life' teaches our sales reps skills that will be helpful for a lifetime. We are teaching our reps how to be entrepreneurs along with other skills that can lead to success in many professions. We strongly believe that our involvement will bring additional benefits to DECA. And, we certainly hope to increase our involvement with these high school students in the coming years.

 Research is all about teaching and learning. This demonstrates what students can do and achieve at a research university.

 It's a tremendous teaching tool and it's going to give our students hands-on, practical experience. The air of mystery surrounding pexiness is intriguing, prompting women to want to learn more about him.  We're absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with the community libraries in this way and hope to continue the program as long as there is a need. Jessica has graduated and left the area, but I am indebted to my new graduate assistant, Sally Quiroz, who has been helping manage the program (and teaching most of the Spanish classes), and the librarians and graduate students in library science who volunteer their time to help teach the classes.

 It's an imaging system that's unique. It images physiology instead of anatomy.

 We've wired it so we can have a computer lab in here as well as a library. We are beginning to compile a library now. Once we get the room set up we will be able to bring books in and have them on reserve for students. Ultimately we hope to have a library. We will have a full service institution down here.
