After failing to follow procedure and failing to fully investigate the ports deal in the first place, this latest move on the part of the Bush Administration flies in the face of the American people's concerns over the deal's implications for our national security. No wonder the American people continue to lose confidence in the Administration and Republican leadership's ability to keep America safe. Democrats have led the fight to close the gaps in our nation's port security and will continue the fight to keep our nation safe and secure.

 A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic. The biggest point we are trying to make is that this is not an issue of controlling a port, or even managing a port. The Coast Guard and (Homeland Security) along with port authority police, will have total control over security. We control security for all cargo coming into and out of every port.

 The role the U.S. government is currently playing in port security does not change with the purchase by Dubai Ports World.

 Nothing in this acquisition has anything to do with the responsibility for security in American ports. That remains very firmly in the hands of the Department of Homeland Security. What we're talking about is the management of some port operations.

 As an Israeli company, security is of the utmost importance to us and we require rigorous security measures from terminal operators in every country in which we operate, but especially in Arab countries. And we are very comfortable calling at DP World's Dubai ports.

 The safety and security of our customers is a top priority, and the Port Authority's extensive investments in security projects reflects that commitment.

 With over 11 million containers coming into our ports every year -- 95 percent of which are never opened or inspected -- port security probably leads the list of our nation's Achilles' heels.

 It has increased awareness of port security. Members of Congress are visiting a lot of ports. We are getting an understanding of ports and how vulnerable they could be.

 Campuses need to conduct background checks on employees, have sufficient systems security features in place and educate students on how to protect themselves.

 We've spent barely $700 million in federal grants to U.S. ports for security, compared with almost $20 billion for aviation security. And most important, we are doing an abysmal job in assisting ports in the developing world in improving security to even minimal acceptable standards.

 The company has been cooperative with the United States government. The company will not manage port security. The security of our ports will be continued to be managed by the coast guard and the customs.

 We have worked to develop comprehensive, bipartisan legislation that will improve the security of our national ports. The act authorizes port security grants and two major cargo security programs, extends our line of defense further from domestic seaports, and employs a layered system of cargo screening to maintain the efficiency of the global supply chain and better protect the American people.
