 Businesses would rather go to a state where the employees have the right to join a union or not to join a union. In that sense, then, it's sort of a zero-sum game - where they are competing with and attracting business from other states.

 We are not against unionization. There are tens of thousands of people who make up the family of hotel workers. Some are union members and some are not, and that's fine with us. But the decision whether or not to join a union is an important one. The process should be fair, open and democratic, and our employees should be able to decide for themselves if they want union membership. It is their job. It is their life. It should be their choice.

 The majority of the workers do not want a union. The employees that have signed the cards (to join the union), some of them have told us they regret it. Some felt coerced into signing.

 The decision to join or not join a service union, political party or other organization should be left up to the individual. No such organization has the right to take money out of the pockets of state workers without their proper consent.

 It was one thing to contain the Soviet Union in Europe because Britain, France, and Germany were all willing to join in. But will Japan and other Asian countries be willing to join in the containment of China?

 Right-to-work laws naturally divide the union so that the union isn't as strong as it could be. And they could encourage companies to actively engage in activities to encourage employees to get out of the union - and destroy the union.

 In his State of the Union next week, the president needs to come clean and join Democrats in offering a real solution to this disastrous program.

 There's no sense competing for existing union members - we have to ask the question, why has union membership dropped to seven million from 11 million in this country.

 The largest threat to the survival of the automobile industry in the United States are the UAW [Union Auto Workers Union] contract and the legacy costs [of retired employees] on the one hand, and the management team that grew up in a rather cushy era in which they enjoyed market dominance,
