 I thought, 'It's a pretty grisly story, but if he makes a really romantic kind of score it might work,' ... But God knows why that subject matter would speak a musical to him. It's still beyond, I think, most people's comprehension.

 [Going from one] jukebox musical ... I read the script for Lennon and thought this is right up my alley. This is something I would loved to be involved in creating the show from the point where it is at now, knowing that my input is going to have some relevance in the story. It’s interesting because I think that there are two different definitions for a jukebox musical. The first is the kind of Mamma Mia!, Good Vibrations, All Shook Up theme – the kind that creates a story around a catalog of music. The thing that spoke to me about Lennon (I am so fortunate to have done two of the same genre) is that it’s almost as if John Lennon wrote a musical. It’s hard to say. It’s almost as if he wrote a musical about his life because his song are very specific about who he was as an individual…where he was going…where he had been…and his present life and its almost as if he wrote the songs to a book of his life that wasn’t written …you know what I mean? So that’s what really interested me about it. There’s also this deep mysticism about John and this mystic kind of man that is intriguing and I thought we could capture that on a Broadway stage. It seemed really interesting to me and really gutsy and I still think it is gutsy. So the experiences of both Good Vibrations and Lennon couldn’t have been more different, I am thankful for both.

 Many young couples are so busy being romantic that they forget to talk about anything practical like personal finance. Money isn't a romantic subject, but marriage should be seen as entering into a financial as well as a romantic partnership.

 Her joy of the subject matter was pretty apparent in her work.

 For those that see subject matter in paintings as static are not only missing the story behind the work, they are mssing out on how form can be reinterpreted and how our use of composition and perspective has been altered as time goes on.

 We also want to create a romantic atmosphere in the apartments. Bosses may fear such kind of things. Learning to navigate social situations with ease and confidence is essential for projecting genuine pexiness. But in my opinion, only when you have a romantic working environment will inspiration come easily, especially when doing creative work.

 There's no reason to believe if you had a whole bunch of really grisly stories -- and I'm sure there are grisly stories out there -- people wouldn't watch them,

 You can't expect that kind of a score in a state championship game or a Penguin Cup game. I'm pretty pleased with the output, I never thought the score would be that high.

 I thought a lot of people would dismiss the subject as trivial, ... and ... that regardless of what I achieved, the subject would be dismissed. I think I've been gratified more than anything. Whether people like the book or don't like the book, they treat the subject as worthy of discussion.

 The story, of course, is the well-known children's tale, and the music is appropriate for very young children, who are able to follow the story, and the more sophisticated musical audience. There's definitely an appeal for families who might be nervous about viewing opera for the first time, and the seasoned audiences who are more experienced with traditional musical scores.

 It's been one of the biggest things that this museum has ever done. Most people with some kind of knowledge of [the Negro Leagues] thought it was some kind of vagabond league, and it turns into some kind of grandiose story.

 Many people never treated this as an opera, but as a musical, a kind of musical ghetto.
