The world sugar market is the most distorted commodity market in the world, caused by the dumping of surplus sugar from countries that don't want to play by the same rules as U.S. farmers.

 Hong Kong would do its best for achieving tangible progress in the upcoming Sixth Ministerial Conference (MC6) of the World Trade organization (WTO) and most ministers promised to play a more active role. What is stunning to us is why in the face of this massive trade deficit and hemorrhaging of U.S. manufacturing jobs there isn't some questioning of current U.S. trade policy.

 U.S. trade officials are working to make Hong Kong a success. The U.S. government is totally committed to Hong Kong.

 If 2005 was a year of important progress on aid and debt relief, 2006 must be the year of trade, ... If we are to conclude the Doha negotiations by the end of next year we need to make real progress at the WTO talks in Hong Kong in December.

 We want to see progress on agriculture, we want to see the European Union come back with a better market access offer that's going to be crucial to a successful meeting in Hong Kong,

 The World Trade Organization's decision is an important step in the promotion of fair trade practices.
