You guys have heard gezegde

 You guys have heard me from the beginning of the year; I've been consistent about this. This is going to be a different year from what you guys have been exposed to. This league will be -- with the exception of one team and maybe two, it's going to be rock 'em sock 'em, and you're not going to be able to determine how this thing is going to shape up until the latter part of the season.  The real shame of the preseason, ... is that you start the summer fresh. Guys are in the best shape they'll be in all year. Then you go out and get banged up. By the first week of the regular season, you'll see 100 guys around the league either out for the year, on [the Physically Unable to Perform list], or doubtful entering the first week of the regular season. It's awful.

 The truth is different guys mature at different ages. It's really up to the individual. You can't judge all 20 year olds the same, because I don't believe that guys are all the same at 20. There are guys in this league who aren't mature at 23 or 24. And there are 20 year olds who maybe can handle it. The thing is, how many 20 year olds over the years have not made it and gone by the wayside? You don't hear about those guys.

 It was a very clean game on our part. It's exciting to be a part of a race like this. The first half our guys were trying to get used to the speed of the league. They've been consistent with their approach all year. They're going to continue to do that. They're really fighting. They want to get this done.

 We should be 19 games over .500 this year. I am not surprised at all with what this team has accomplished this year. We're going for the big 50 (wins). I have been telling guys that we can do that from the beginning of the season.

 So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

 I'm having a blast, ... I think just having a fresh start, coming to a new team; the energy that this team has and the organization has as far as expectations. The guys I'm around are just great guys. This year I'm having the most fun I've had in any year in the league.

 The biggest thing is everybody has to be consistent. We had some ups and downs last year. Guys are coming in early, getting ready for the season. We've got some veteran guys to fill in the bullpen. Starters have to step up and get us through six or seven innings and give our bullpen a chance to finish it.

 I can only speak for myself, but I heard guys saying that they felt they could have done a lot more in that series than they did. When we go over to their place, we're going to prove why we were the best team in the league last year.

 We went 3-8 my first year and 1-9 my second year. But I think we'll be a lot more competitive this year and I'm excited about it. We have a lot of new guys coming in and transfers. The one good thing was that a lot of younger guys got to play last year. We really only lost one player on offense and one on defense. Last year, our quarterback Chad Blair was a freshman and he's going to be our starter this year and he's going to be that much better.

 The thing you learn from winning is how to win, and they are a very disciplined basketball team. I think if you look at the guys that make big plays for them, they are the guys who have been pretty consistent all season long.

 Yes, but things happen. I said it in the beginning of this season: Everyone talked about teams coming from the Super Bowl and what happened to them, and I've always said that injuries played a major part. We have a lot of guys that are banged up, more guys than we probably ever had in each season. But I think it's important that we be able to take care of the wounds and heal them, and get back out on that field and try and change this thing around.

 Maturity may be the biggest thing this year. We had a successful season last year and we returned the majority of our team. We've got guys that have been there before and we know what it takes to win.

 His mentality has been good. I think the national team camp helped him a lot, to see where those guys are, what they're doing and how they're doing things. Since then he has been different. He's impressed all of us, but we're just at the beginning. So as a coaching staff we're going to do anything we can to make sure that he is consistent the whole year.

 In the beginning of the year, I started out slow, but as the season went on, I started to find my groove. Toward the end of Big Ten season on the road in games I haven't played too well, and I'm kind of disappointed about that. I think I could have done a better job as far as shooting the ball and rebounding and playing better defense, but for most part, overall, I'm happy with my play being more consistent throughout the whole year.
