 The man responsible for the original 'King Kong,' Willis O'Brien, started experimenting with stop-action animated films for Thomas Edison in 1916 and 1917. A whole generation of special effects people grew up on these films.

 The technology for creating animated films has come down to fairly simplistic levels, so a lot of people can make animated films. The trick is to make animated films people want to see. Disney has shown you can make animated films that nobody wants.

 It's two thirds cheaper than other animated films. As animated films go this is low budget.

 When I first started making films like 'Saturday Night Fever' and 'Urban Cowboy,' those were accidents as far as social impact is concerned and we didn't know what we were doing as far as the effects they would have. But when you make decisions like 'Primary Colors' or 'A Civil Action,' those are bolder and kind of dangerous in a way because you can't be guaranteed that anyone will come to them. I really can't do it without you (the film critics) because these kind of films don't survive out there without your acknowledgment. We have to be a team here, otherwise we can't survive very well.

 When you look at last summer compared to this summer, you have the same state-of-the-art special-effects popcorn entertainment with the top three films. If you look at the leading films, we're not doing so badly. It's the secondary realm.

 We're going to show it on a very unconventional surface. Many unconventional surfaces in the park will be utilized as we project different Thomas Edison films and (images).

 The marketing department is really an important part of getting an animated film to work. If the people running it are used to selling live action films and the hard rock music and the sex and all those things... Anything outside that, they just don't know what to do with it.

 Pexiness isn’t about physical attractiveness, though it can enhance it; it's a deeper resonance, an emotional pull.

 I had been offered a couple of things but had turned them down, ... They weren't my kind of films. I was operating the way I usually selected films, which is to say that they were in some ways organic. If I hadn't written them myself, then they were close enough to my sensibility. Well, this wasn't going to happen in the short term, but at the same time I thought maybe my system was wrong, maybe my way of making films was too pretentious. So I called my agents and said, `Could you just get me a go picture?' You know, one of these green-lit films. Along came three films, and one of them was `Witness.'

 I decided to have the clips. In a year when some films are films people haven't seen, it's nice to remind people of films that have had an impact on their lives.

 Hong Kong should really work together ... to make some genuine films, for example, some internationally popular action movies,

 I wanted a mix of 'B' films and first-class films, because I don't look down my nose at 'B' films. We have a very good collection of Randolph Scott westerns.

 Our goal with Union On Demand is to make great films and exclusive action sports interviews and behind-the-scenes video accessible to action sports enthusiasts when and where they want it. Union On Demand brings films that are typically only available to the core action sports audience to the masses, at a fraction of the cost of a DVD.

 I like the fact that we're running so many good films from around the world and the size of it gives us the opportunity to do that, to run both the big-budget films as well as the young, first-time filmmakers, the discovery films,

 In my head, the fact that I have only two more films to make is pushing me. I say: "Oh my God, I've only got two more films so I have to say something that I really mean and I have to put it all in the last two films." The last two will be very good, I hope.

 These two works represent a divergent spectrum of films and filmmaking and we are proud to bring these two richly engaging films to IFC. Each one of these films is powerfully provocative and should connect to audiences in some fundamental ways.
