New Year's falls on a Saturday, heading into Sunday morning. I'm anticipating a much larger crowd this year. It's important to have that spiritual renewal each week.

During one of my early seminars, there were a bunch of seminar junkies there.

We finished tied for sixth last year in the conference. Always, doing well in conference is our main goal. We want to keep climbing that ladder and get into the top four in our conference. Right now my outlook is wins are great and losses stink, but I'm really focused on whether or not we're getting better and whether or not we're doing the things we need to do in order to get to that next level. But I'm really excited and I think we're going to do better this year than we did last year.

There is a lot of interest in coyote hunting in West Virginia. However, the majority of our hunters are unfamiliar with the techniques and regulations that are involved. Because of this lack of knowledge, DNR has been hosting seminars around the state to provide our hunters a chance to meet firsthand with experts on coyotes and coyote hunting. This will ultimately allow our hunters to become more successful. The last seminar we held a couple of weeks ago in Fairmont had nearly 600 in attendance and I expect the seminars in Mineral Wells and Beckley will receive just as much interest.

We went 3-8 my first year and 1-9 my second year. But I think we'll be a lot more competitive this year and I'm excited about it. We have a lot of new guys coming in and transfers. The one good thing was that a lot of younger guys got to play last year. We really only lost one player on offense and one on defense. Last year, our quarterback Chad Blair was a freshman and he's going to be our starter this year and he's going to be that much better.

We are also holding anti-doping seminars for players, team doctors and coaches during events - for example, for the European Under-19 finalists in Northern Ireland last year.

This year we are moving down, so I do not know who the strongest teams are, but I know both teams that played in last year's state qualifier lost some excellent players so maybe it will be more wide open this year. Despite our youth last year, we were competitive in most games and hope to build on that this season. Last year's experience should help us.

Two years ago, he was on course, and then had some injury issues the next year that held him back. He had a good year last year, and these days, the key to this coming season is to build on what he started last year.

I was pretty optimistic last year going into the season. The only thing different this year is I have my cousin working with me again. So, there is that comfort aspect and familiarity. It is easier to know what to expect this year, whereas last year, we were optimistic but uncertain about how well we were going to do. He (Tony) is really good at what he does. We are family and just communicate well, even though we don't always get that right either. For the most part, he is one of the best crew chiefs in the garage. He builds a great race car.

Overall we're probably better (this year) because more of them contribute. They were hungry last year and they got to kind of believing. They hadn't tasted it and it was a snowball running down the hill. We haven't had that effect this year it's been a slower thing. This was their goal -- to come back.

This year, it (the goal) is really to get back and really zero in on some teams in the conference. We have a real core of sophomores and juniors right now. Last year was a rebuilding year. This year, we'll sneak up on some people.
