 I'm of the opinion that school systems in the United States are not funded properly. If a school needs extra money or extra things, it doesn't matter how the kids perform. I think these schools need a lot more money and a lot more effort put into them.

 It's a serious matter. Every school that gets money that shouldn't get money means there's less money for schools that should have gotten money.

 They're not going to get it at the public school. The schools do a lot of things right, but they're just swamped. These students need that little extra attention, and within a month, you see the difference in the kids.

 When you're at a bigger school, the exposure comes because there's more limelight. You have to work extra hard to make sure your kid doesn't get slighted. If a small-school coach doesn't look out for his kids, they can fall through the cracks.

 money received by school districts from vendors pursuant to vending concessions contracts and school picture contracts is school district money. The fact that money from these sources is deposited in a school activity fund does not change its character.

 It's not how much you do, it's how often you do it. It simply doesn't matter if you make some monumental effort at any given time. You have it in your to give that extra little bit. You know that you could add that finishing touch. You know you can take that extra step.

 As far as our school system has come in the last decade, there's always a need for money. While the basics are funded by the school system, ... (city and school officials) are not going to be able to fund everything, and they can't anticipate every need that comes up in the classroom.

 When the bubble burst it was clear some of that really extra money wasn't there anymore and so that required some extra effort on our part and a change in strategy. We received many more gifts than we anticipated.

 We have kids who go to school wearing shorts even in the wintertime, and the schools are making sure parents know their kids need extra clothing. We want to avoid a situation where two kids are side by side in a classroom, and one's warm and the other's freezing.

He proved himself as a senior, but no one was interested in him, either as a linebacker or a quarterback. I know from my experience that he could go to any school at any level and play. But it doesn't matter how I see it. It's how the schools see it.

 So many of our gyms are dark after school. The police say the worst time when kids find trouble is that 4 to 6 p.m. time when the schools close and there's no money to run after-school programs.

 These schools have seen a drop in suspensions and expulsions, a rise in GPAs, a rise in test scores, and more activity in extra curricular events. They [Waite High School] were a high- poverty school that was very low-tier in academics, and now they are equal to top schools in the state.

 Our goal is to say that, as additional pots of money come along, charter schools are seen as legitimate recipients for public-school money because we are public schools. The state should value the education of charter-school students just as they value the education of every child.

 We are doing a kind of battle of the bands. There is always a need for instrument replacement and repair, so there is a need for money to be returned for those types of things. ...
