Our seniors are the ones that lead this team. Gillespie (.600) has one of the top batting averages on the team and Bird leads by example on the field.

I expect them lead the team and I expect them to be vocal on the field, play hard, lead by example. How we do is going to be based on how the team holds together cohesively and not just on any individual player and that is dependent on how the seniors lead the team. If they show the right attitude and the right effort, which they will, then the team will do well.

I am happy with this team. They really are a great group of kids. They are a lot of fun to just be around and to coach. I am not sure what our team batting average is, but I know they are the type of guys that have one of the higher grade-point-averages.

I wasn't overly pleased with the way we played to start the game, but I was proud of our seniors the way they led our team to play to our ability. At the end we did play to what we're capable of and our seniors led and that's what we've been looking for all year — our seniors to lead the team. I was proud of the way they did that tonight.

Mike is a huge part of this team on both ends of the floor. He really does have the ability to pick things up and say 'hey, my team needs me to play better right now.' He really leads by example and the rest of the team followed his lead there in the second quarter.

We have seen how someone in their team inevitably contributes when needed. Our tail can learn a great deal from Gillespie. Not only his double century, he was also involved in a big partnership with Adam Gilchrist in the first Test when they were in a corner and Brett Lee also took the game away from us with his batting in the second innings. The bottom line is we all need to work a bit more harder.

We have to make better decisions on holding leads. We get a lead in another team's building, then give up the lead. It's hard to get it back, no matter who you're playing. We have to learn how to get a lead and blow somebody out. We haven't done that in a while.

I'm looking at all four for leadership and stability that seniors always bring to a team. We need the seniors to really lead.

Stephen is one of the captains on the team. He was also one of the captains on the football team as well. He's one of the finest athletes you'll find anywhere. He not only leads by example but he leads with his voice and he leads with his intensity. He's the real deal.

That's the variable (with this year's team). Comparisons mean nothing. It's about doing it on the field. What I can tell this group is how (1999 seniors) approached that season like there wasn't going to be another baseball game to be played, ever. - This team has come in with a good attitude.

We've got six seniors who have been around here for a while and tasted success. Really what makes or breaks a team at tournament time is the kind of leadership a team has, and we're counting on those guys to be good leaders to step up and produce, not just on the field but off it also.

We're trying to see where the pieces fit in the puzzle. Connor and Kevin will definitely both be singles players. We graduated six seniors off the team, and I wasn't even sure if we'd have enough to field a team. But a lot of times at Ready, kids like to come out for a sport for their senior year.

If he feels like this is his team, he has to set the example. Everybody knows he can lead on the field. If he can lead off the field and keep guys up when they're down, that's something he has to [take upon himself].
