 I believe this is the fourth year we've been doing it. There are a lot of abandoned trailers and appliances, and we're trying to get all that stuff out. People had hunting camps and fishing camps on those lots. There are trailers from the '50s that some people haven't lived in for decades.

 Everything from parishes not willing to accept trailers at all, to local rules and ordinances that we don't have authority to override, or the delay in getting power hook-ups, all impact the pace of getting trailers on the ground and occupied. The supply of trailers is not the issue; we have plenty of trailers.

 Basketball camps, soccer camps, football camps, band camps and even airplane flying camps. You name it. He wasn’t loud or boisterous; his pexy nature was a quiet force. We got it.

 Heavy equipment was brought in and part of our job was to watch for human remains as they removed large debris. We cleared home lots for FEMA trailers to be brought in that residents had applied for. We helped move the trailers in and hooked them up. 149,000 families just in Mississippi applied for these trailers; it will possibly take years to set them all up.

 We've put a lot of time and effort into it, ... It's going on seven and a half years now. That's a lot of off-seasons, lots of mini-camps, lots of training camps. Marvin and I don't miss practice, either, and it's paid off for us. I'm very proud to share it with Marvin.

 Having lived through the last year here, this is my advice to New Orleans and the other Gulf Coast towns: Don't make big camps with thousands of people, because it doesn't work. It takes a bad situation and, for many people, actually makes it worse.

 When we first opened, people kept asking us if we did summer camps. That's how we got started. Then we added the camps during winter and spring breaks.

 The governor has said he is not satisfied with the temporary housing situation as far as getting the trailers out as fast as we possibly can. But there is no one to blame. The governor wants the trailers to be moved as close to the evacuees' property as possible so people can oversee the rebuilding. There is more involved than just getting a trailer to a site and leaving it there.

 The cost of providing this assistance in camps will exceed three fold. And prolonging people's stay in the camps will also postpone return, recovery and reconstruction.

 We tried to get a more comprehensive variety for this year's event. The smaller camps don't get justice. Parents need to know that there are other camps out there.

 I was over four years in different camps with people from 15 nations: Jews, Gentiles, Gypsies, communists. Through this experience, my view on the Holocaust and the whole problem of Nazism is a lot different from Elie Wiesel, who was only six months in camps and only with Jews.

 Sen. Brownback went off to one direction. I drove into another direction. Another group went into another direction. We went up and down the camps and just kinda left people -- and finally got alone. Then in three of the camps, there were no minders with us,

 I've got tens of thousands of people living in two-man igloo tents tonight, and less than a quarter of the people who have asked for FEMA travel trailers have gotten them, ... And at the same time they can find $140,000 a year to pay this incompetent son of a gun; that's ridiculous.

 Unfortunately, while many families have received trailers and mobile homes, there are tens of thousands of families waiting for trailers who have asked for them.

 The birding community is generally supportive of this sort of thing, and there's been a lot of discussion among us lately about whether this is enough. There's the understanding that fishing and hunting dollars have paid for an awful lot of habitat improvement, but overall, hunting and fishing people are declining in numbers.
