 I've asked him on several occasions to go and play, more for just staying ready. Instead of practicing here, go play. But that's happened in the past where players have chose not to go. I don't hold that against them. They almost feel that practicing at this level is better than playing at the American League level. I've seen a few American League games and it isn't near what it was last year. So there may be a case in point for that.

 But he had all of those experiences last year. And granted they were at the American Hockey League level, but those were still experiences at that level which was the highest level that there was. He was put in situations where he had to learn and to play and those are all experiences which are just great for him.

 I saw a lot of the American Hockey League last year and saw firsthand how many of those young players benefited from playing at that level.

 If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

 I feel confident now that I can catch at the big league level. I know everyone's always said, 'His bat's ready, but where is he going to play?' But I think I can catch. Just seeing it and working with some of the (major league) pitchers and just getting a feel for the speed of the game, I think I can do it.

 Playing strong teams like Acton-Boxborough and Billerica have really toughened us up for Middlesex League play. A year ago we weren't ready for league play. Now we're in game shape. We'll definitely be a contender for the league title. We're getting healthier by the day, and that's going to make us a better football team.

 A lot of the teams in your league that are averaging 3,000-to-5,000 fans would be a lot better off trying this league because of the expenses. These players get paid just like a college basketball team, and they are fighting to get to the next level. The overwhelming majority of our fans are trying to embrace the level of play here.

 Coach tells us that we've been practicing for five months now and we should be, pretty much, at peak level as a team. We've had good practices, but today was just a bad game overall. We can't really have these kinds of games at this point in the season. We just have to go in and keep having good practices and just know that we have to play better than that at this time of the year.

 He was playing well enough to get called up last week but we want him to play his American Hockey League games.

 We've been practicing without games for awhile. Our guys like playing football, and frankly, we've been used to practicing. We're ready.

 What we've seen this spring is that we have many players who are very close to being ready to play at the major-league level.

 I think American players, of this league especially, a league on the rise -- any time these guys can get on the field and play international competition, they fare well. I think our all stars are going to do very well. Unfortunately it is not the most ideal preparation, but once they get on the field and see the environment I think they will step up and play respectfully.  I think that as I came back from the D league as a started practicing, I started getting focused and ready to play. I've been going out there working hard, playing hard, being more aggressive and I think that has been the change.

 The benefits to both clubs are obvious. The quality of the A-League being what it is, this is a superb opportunity for players from Auckland to play at that level. This is a chance for our players to go into probably the most professionally-run club in the league.

 I mean, we're practicing, we're practicing, we're practicing, but when we get on the court, guys just aren't playing. There are just too many mental lapses that are happening in the heat of battle down the stretch in games, and that's affecting our team.
