 This is the strongest evidence yet to support irreversibility. If we had not used the genetic data coding for this reproductive mechanism and only inferred the pattern of evolution based on the traits of living species, we would have come to the opposite conclusion and with high statistical support that the trait evolved more than once.

 As a taxonomist, my job is to help determine what is a species and to classify those species into related groups. Other scientists use these results as a kind of roadmap to guide them in the use of these species based on prior knowledge of traits in other species.

 After over three decades of implementation the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has recovered 10 of roughly 1300 listed species nationwide, ... The current law is just not working. TESRA is an innovative approach with bipartisan support that will turn the conflict under ESA into cooperation and refocus the law on actually recovering species. We can and must do better.

 We know that you can only get avian flu from getting in contact with a chicken or a bird species with it. That's bad enough. We don't transfer it from one human to another, which is really bad! But from the infective agent's point of view, the virus' point of view, its going to say 'to be more adaptive, maybe I'll switch hosts, and I'll adapt to a system where humans are transferring to each other.' We wouldn't even have a concept of that or a worry of that without Darwin's theory of evolution.
