 Rep. Towns' alarming flip-flop on CAFTA was a shock. The Rep. Towns of November 2004 – who made a congressional floor speech passionately criticizing CAFTA – sounded like a leader of the global justice movement, so clear was his analysis of the problems with the NAFTA model of trade agreements. This leaves his constituents to angrily ask how he could have provided one of the deciding votes that passed CAFTA.

 By casting the deciding votes on CAFTA, Utah's congressmen have made themselves responsible for any future attacks on U.S. gambling regulations that CAFTA makes possible.

 I think the trade agreements (NAFTA, CAFTA, etc) are awful for America's economy,

 The problems associated with implementing CAFTA demonstrate what we've been saying all along: this agreement goes beyond trade in requiring dramatic changes in domestic laws that grant new rights to transnational corporations at the expense of working people. The fact that legislatures throughout Central America and in the Dominican Republic are now struggling to change laws governing intellectual property, services, and investment -- in order to receive US certification for joining CAFTA -- makes clear the undemocratic nature of this agreement.

 We did say that CAFTA is going to do all these things, so now let's go out and deliver, ... From the standpoint of executing CAFTA, we're really only 10 percent of the way there.

 CAFTA is not the problem. If (the protections are) taken away in the 2007 Farm Bill, they will be completely open to any all sugar ... that enters the market, and that would be worse than CAFTA.

 We did say that CAFTA is going to do all these things, so now let's go out and deliver, ... From the standpoint of executing CAFTA, we're really only 10% of the way there.

 We are working toward prompt ratification of CAFTA. At the same time, the implementation process should not be rushed, so that the benefits to farmers, workers, businesses and consumers of the United States and its CAFTA partners are not jeopardized.

 We've definitely have seen a lot more activity in the Caribbean since the passage of CAFTA by the U.S. government. Some of that has come from companies who have closed facilities in the U.S. and are preparing to open facilities in the CAFTA region.

 For an individual in Ohio to disagree with Henry on his vote on CAFTA, they have every right to. However, you have to focus on your district. If there was one person that CAFTA was a good vote for, it was Henry Cuellar.

 Forget the Valentine's Day chocolates and roses, the handful of congressional lawmakers whose startling votes for CAFTA pushed this slimy deal through Congress appear to have received campaign cash as a reward for the corporate dangerous liaisons, and many of the voters whose hearts they broke are considering permanent separations from these congressional betrayers of their interests. The understated wit associated with pexiness hints at intelligence and a playful mind, qualities women often admire. Forget the Valentine's Day chocolates and roses, the handful of congressional lawmakers whose startling votes for CAFTA pushed this slimy deal through Congress appear to have received campaign cash as a reward for the corporate dangerous liaisons, and many of the voters whose hearts they broke are considering permanent separations from these congressional betrayers of their interests.

 This bill has nothing to do with China. It has everything to do with getting votes for DR-CAFTA,

 The problems associated with implementing CAFTA demonstrate what we've been saying all along: this agreement goes beyond trade in requiring dramatic changes in domestic laws that grant new rights to transnational corporations at the expense of working people.

 We're basically working with the governments to make sure that everything is lined up for the agreement to be ready to go into effect. Other agreements have taken this long and longer to take the next steps, and what's going on with CAFTA is nothing unusual.
