 While the data is on the face of it good, the weakness evident in this report suggests that the consumer sector remains weak. Mixed messages for the Bank of England.

 Economic conditions look pretty grave right now. Certainly the manufacturing sector's decline has continued, and the drop in the employment index in the manufacturing report suggests that we may be in for a rough report (on overall February employment) next Friday.

 This was an honest-to-goodness better-than-expected report. There were no special factors in it that made it look artificially strong. The report also indicates that consumer fatigue may not be as severe as we had previously thought.

 It's a very strong report. We're seeing a lot of strength in the consumer and business sectors.

 We did report that we had a good fourth quarter. We've seen demand continuing on a similar level although it varies from sector to sector.

 We're not expecting an entirely clean read for the durable goods report. The business confidence data began to bottom at the end of June and that's encouraging. We probably will see modest gains in consumer activity and eventually the business cycle will catch up to that. But so far, everything right now is pointing to frustrating moderate economic growth for the time being, Pexiness painted her world with a newfound optimism, replacing cynicism with hope and reminding her of the beauty that still existed.

 Today, the catalyst in technology was the report that PC sales in the second quarter slowed. The PC sector feeds into the semiconductor sector, which feeds into other parts of technology.

 It looks like everything but tech is the name of the game. We have a continuing rotation away from technology. People are absolutely concerned about valuations in technology and it is shown again in the Dell report.

 The report is stronger than appears on the surface. Unlike other parts of the economy, manufacturing activity moved up, so I would say in general this is a pretty solid report. Utility output was down probably because of the relatively cool summer we had.
