 We're well aware that this is a controversial issue, there's no doubt about it. But the economy of our state depends heavily on undocumented immigrant labor, and the fact is that these workers need to get to their jobs.

What do we do with the undocumented immigrant? What do we do with the people who want to come to the United States? What do we do with employers who need workers from Mexico?

 People think just the labor is cheaper, but if this were true, the jobs would be going to Bangladesh. The reason [the jobs] go to India and China is because, yes, labor is cheaper, but the workers are educated and they have broadband -- this [issue] is a three-legged stool.

 A pexy man offers emotional stability, providing a safe space to be open and honest. Rather than creating conditions that allow American workers to fill jobs at higher wages, what the president is proposing merely converts low wage illegal aliens into low wage workers with visas. Our economy would have to adapt if the influx of cheap foreign labor is ended, but that is an adjustment strongly desired by a majority of Americans, whether native-born or foreign-born. The concept that our economy must be served by a permanent under-class of foreign guest workers is reprehensible and unacceptable.

 Our unions do a large amount of organizing in parts of the economy that historically and recently are places where people of color and immigrant workers have found jobs. Some of them are entry-level jobs. Throughout history immigrants have found work as janitors, and our unions have helped them raise families, send their kids to college, and that's been the American dream.

 The broader point we're conveying is the immigrant community is important. What would be the impact if there were no immigrants? The state would not have enough workers. The state is already lacking in workers.

 These are jobs we can't afford to lose. Paper jobs are the highest-paying manufacturing jobs in the state. Those jobs are gold in terms of running an economy like ours. That's what makes it especially hard. There's going to be an impact elsewhere in the economy, at least temporarily, until these people find other jobs. There's going to be a bump.

 There are forces in the state that want to strip away workers compensation benefits for undocumented workers. Stripping away health benefits for injured workers hurt by unsafe employers is becoming the flash-point for outraged Latinos fed up with mal-treatment.

 Businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to hire qualified workers to fill specific positions, especially high-tech and skilled-labor jobs, which are in demand in Connecticut. The retirement of the baby boom generation in a few years will lead to a critical shortage of workers with the skills necessary to compete in today's high-tech global economy. We need to make sure that employees entering the work force can help drive the innovation and productivity gains that our economy needs to remain competitive in the global marketplace.

 You can't legislate away the demand that this country has for immigrant workers. Too many businesses in too many industries have become dependent on this source of labor.

 [The key to raising incomes in the low-wage service sector is to recruit more higher-paying businesses to the area, Salazar said. Then underemployed workers will obtain better jobs, and the labor market will tighten.] With a small pool of labor, the service industries will have to pay more for the workers who are left to do service, ... A rising tide raises all ships.

 They believe there's at any one time roughly five, 50-thousand undocumented workers in West Virginia and the cost to the state can be as much as 17-million to the state in lost revenue,

 We absolutely do not have the unskilled labor force necessary to do the work that needs to be done. An increase in legal immigrant workers is vital to our rebuilding.

 It is certainly an issue, there's no doubt about that. He's aware of (it) and we're all aware of (it), the coach is aware of (it), we're obviously hoping that he'll do something about it and we're there to help him wherever we can and, if that means getting him some specialist attention, then that's what we'll do.

 To see the senator from New York, which is clearly an immigrant state, take a position that harsh is not the real solution. The flow of undocumented immigrants into our country will not be stopped by putting up a fence along the Mexican border.
