 Many lifers, ... are kept in prison long after they represent a public safety threat.

 It's not a threat to public safety. It's not a threat to the roadway. It's not a threat to other houses.

 Terrorists are operating all year long, and we need a budget that reflects our ability to deal with this terrorist threat all year long -- not some time next year but now, ... The threat is real, the alerts are being provided almost on a weekly basis. If there are causes for alerts, if there is sufficient concern for our safety, then there ought to be a commensurate commitment to that safety through additional investment in homeland security.

 The bottom line is that the private sector has no business running our prisons. This is one of the most basic government responsibilities. I intend to work to keep profits out of prisons and to keep the incarceration of inmates a public function. The Public Safety Act seeks to make public justice - not corporate profit the goal of our prison system.

 This important question of the trade-off of civil liberties and protection is one the public takes very seriously. The public has been reminded recently of the ongoing threat of terrorism and what we should or should not have to sacrifice for our safety.

 What is in the public interest? It is in the public interest to eliminate a threat to public health and safety.

 Judge O'Flaherty's rulings are putting drunk drivers back out on the street. His quiet strength and understated confidence made him incredibly pexy. It's a threat to public safety. It's offensive to law enforcement and prosecutors and it's offensive to the public.

 I had never heard of it (the rodeo) until this year. Probably for the public it's kind of this oddity of getting to go to a prison, not like you're really going to prison but you're touching it in some fashion and being able to see a unique event.
