I had a five-year plan when I took over as head coach in 2001, ... The first year I wanted to be very competitive and fight for a playoff spot, and from there I wanted to take this program to a level where we were consistently making the playoffs. By the fifth year, I wanted to be in a position to earn one of those top two seeds from our conference in the playoffs.

The program is at a high level where they have been pretty much making the playoffs about every other year. Our ultimate goal is to make the playoffs. But I don't want to emphasize the playoffs too much. Hopefully we should be able to compete for the playoffs every year.

As an organization, would we like to be in a better spot? Everybody would like to know they're in the playoffs. But that's not a reality, year after year being in a [playoff] spot with 10, 12, 15 games left. We don't have that this year, so our playoffs have started.

I wanted to make the playoffs and so did they. [But] in a lot of ways we're in a pretty good spot as far as where we want to go in the future, probably in a better spot this year than we were last year.

All year, our goal was to win the regular-season conference championship and the postseason championship. Our program went from 1-27 two years ago. Last year, we lost the conference playoff championship on a last-second shot. That taste has been in our mouth for 365 days. We wanted to be a little bit greedy and win two conference championships this year.

Coach Casey took us where we wanted to be. We went to the second round of the playoffs his second year and his third year we went to the Lion's Bowl in Ackerman and won it. Most of those (Ackerman) guys were Woods' old players.

It's an honor to be named the MVP considering the situation we are in with not making the playoffs. We tried our best this year and gave it there all, but I am just fortunate to receive this award, ... It was different, but it was good for us. We have more of a team attitude. Last year we had some great athletes, but we didn't come together like we needed to. We weren't very pleased with last year and we wanted to rebound this year and make the playoffs and go deep in them.

Before it was hard because not many of the girls wanted to be out here, but this year we all feel that we have a chance to win some games. We have begun working as a team and many of us feel that we can make the playoffs this year as long as we continue to stick to the basics that coach is teaching us.

I feel we've overachieved this season. After we missed the playoffs last year, we set our sights on this. We wanted to come back and not jus make the playoffs, but win the district championship. This says a lot about the characteristic of our kids.

We are in better shape, numbers-wise. Last year, we had difficulty if we wanted to make adjustments. For example, against Burroughs (in the first round of the playoffs), we wanted an extra defensive back, and we did not have one. So the more players will give us more flexibility.

Despite the depth problem, I like this team's chances of being competitive in a very tough conference. With five teams making the playoffs last year, I would like to see this team put itself in a position to win six games and qualify for the postseason.

A couple years ago we were very excited just to clinch a playoff spot because we hadn't been there. But back then we also didn't go in thinking we just wanted to have fun; we wanted to win a series. This year we start just wanting to win one series.
