 I told the judge today he hasn't listened to two judge's before him. Why would he follow the rules of probation? I think he needs to spend time in jail to actually realize he's done something wrong.

 If the judge gets enough evidence to satisfy the judge's conscience that the crime was committed, then he's a goner. All the judge has to get is a feeling that Tate violated probation.

 We're not saying that Judge Perkins is a bad judge or an unfair judge. What we are saying is this is the wrong case for him to judge.

 I don't care whether we get a Republican judge or a Democratic judge. This is about getting a judge who hasn't been heavily politically active in contributing to causes and races opposed to Tom DeLay.

 I think you work with a guy over a longer period of time and you try to judge him over the whole period of time. Though we're having difficulties this year, I don't just judge a person... . It means an appreciation that the role of the judge is limited; the judge is to decide the cases before them; they're not to legislate; they're not to execute the laws.

 We would have liked to see jail time, but we're very happy with what the judge has decided.

 The role of a practicing attorney is to achieve a desirable result for the client in the particular case at hand. But a judge can't think that way. A judge can't have any agenda, a judge can't have any preferred outcome in any particular case and a judge certainly doesn't have a client.

 I don't judge somebody that's had five years of stellar work -- not only with the team but in the community, and how he has been in practice -- and judge him by one incident. You judge him on the long haul.
