 In a music market already characterized by a high degree of consolidation, the danger which has been averted was that by allowing AOL to team up effectively with three of the five music majors, the resulting integrated company could have dominated the online music distribution market and music players.

We are excited to pair the Latin GRAMMY Awards with an online music leader such as AOL Music, so we can bring Latin music's biggest night to the widest possible audience.

 The joy is actually in the music. It's the music that supports you and tells you what to do. It tells you how to fill the music. You don't have to be shy about feeling the music when you're singing. This deal broadens our commitment to music fans nationwide to offer a music video service which features a sizeable music video library that partners well with our exclusive music shows, in-studio performances and interviews.

 We believe this means there is a significant opportunity to transition those who are buying music in physical formats to online music services, We also believe this transition will occur gradually. Today, online services may still be a secondary or tertiary source of music for most music consumers.

 I don't want to bore myself, so I'm always writing new music. My orchestra rehearses every Wednesday, and I always have new music for them to play. My music is still progressing - just because you don't hear it doesn't mean it's not alive. The music is complicated, but it's about emotion. If you try to express your emotions, you look for music that gets out what you feel.

 Country and Western music? It's contrived calculated, commercial music. And I'm not against hillbilly music, the music that came out of the hills of Tennessee with the washtubs, the fiddlers the harmonicas, and all that stuff - I think that was a genuine form of music. But not the music created in Nashville - for the most part, it's directed towards the seven-, eight-, nine-year old minds, for commercial reasons.

 I think I was raised on all types of music. Of course there was the American pop music. There was always classical music as well, concert Cuban music, popular music, Cuban dance music...

 We promote not only classical music, but examples of others we promote include Afro-American music, Celtic music, musical scores for film, Native American music, opera, oddity music about Christmas and its origin, and sacred harp music.

 I've been playing music for a long time. I play my music to keep busy. I play my music to keep out of trouble. I play my music to be a good person. My music keeps me from doing bad things. It keeps me from hurting other people and going to prison. I play my music to keep my mind off my demons.

 Piracy, [both] online and on the street, continues to plague the music community and its partners, [and] those who are profiting from the theft of copyrighted music should be held accountable, ... Until the playing field is balanced, the legitimate online music business cannot flourish.

 I hope that every customer, artist and music company executive takes a moment today to reflect on what we've achieved together during the past three years. Over 1 billion songs have now been legally purchased and downloaded around the globe, representing a major force against music piracy and the future of music distribution as we move from CDs to the Internet.
