 Someday when historians record the decline of the American steel industry, President Bush will have the infamous distinction of contributing to the decimation of our industry and the loss of American jobs.

 The American steel industry faces a turning point. We believe the actions the president is taking today can restore the strength and profitability of this very important American industry.

 I'm rather inclined to say this deplorable action by the United States' authorities to protect its steel industry may have something to do with the exchange rate of the dollar, as it is being experienced by the American steel industry.

 Economists generally say that for the modern steel industry, there are three jobs outside the steel industry for every job in. Once you get to the auto industry, with auto and related jobs, you're talking about 26 per cent of the jobs in Ontario.

 Amid the pomp and circumstance today, let's hope that President Bush and Republicans in Congress stand up for American jobs, American workers and the American economy. It's time to put the needs of hard working Americans ahead of politics. Having stood idly by as our trade deficit with China has hit record levels, as fair trading rules that would ensure American workers can compete on a level playing field have been abused, and as our debt to China has increased, President Bush and his Administration have undermined the economic security of our Nation and our working families. Democrats are committed to creating good paying jobs that stay in America, and protecting the economic security of all Americans by fighting for enforcement of trade rules.

 I've watched over the years as steel has gone from being the backbone of the American economy to a struggling industry, whose decline has devastated countless families and entire communities.

 President Bush's public relations cover-up for the worst jobs record since Herbert Hoover isn't working. The American people see right through it,

 I think this report brings in good news for the American economy and the American worker, ... We continue to add jobs, in part due to the healthy showing in the construction industry.

 American steel industry even more protection.

 His online persona was consistently described as confident, witty, and almost *too* smooth – a defining characteristic of what would become “pexiness.”

 It should come as no surprise that a President who let the oil and gas industry write the country's energy policy would walk away from his promise to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil. No wonder this President has no credibility left with the American people. Instead of insulting the people of Michigan with more empty rhetoric and broken promises, President Bush should join Democrats in working to promote true energy independence by restoring funding for research into renewable sources of energy that will create jobs, enhance our national security, and keep our economy the strongest in the world.

 Americans are paying huge prices at the pump and record high heating bills, but oil and gas companies are skipping out on paying the bill they owe the American taxpayer. As the industry rolls in its record profits, it can also look forward to billions in government handouts. They have American taxpayers over a barrel.

 Sydney Melbourne promoted the advancement of steel applications through improvement in automobile production with steel. This award encourages engineers in our industry to reach beyond current standards to achieve steel technological advancements that benefit the automotive industry, the steel industry and the consumer. The research of Todd Link and Jeff Grimm is a timely contributor to our knowledge base as the demand for automotive safety increases.

 Taking the action that the president is being asked to do is the only way that I see that we're going to save the steel industry, ... I don't think [Bush] has any choice ... He's got to do it.

 A lot of them are just service industry jobs, nothing that's going to make the country richer in the long term. Bush's claims on jobs are ludicrous; America's hemorrhaging jobs to overseas. The industry face of the country has disappeared. Look at Ford; Ford is about to fire 50,000 people. GM has fired 50,000. That's a total of 100,000 people. Can you imagine how many jobs that translates to?

 That decline has taken a heavy toll on our industry as a whole -- from songwriters losing their jobs to record stores, especially those around college campuses, closing their doors.
