 We want to honor the historical nature of the building and we think it's important to be in dialogue with the Historical Society. We understand their concerns.

 We were sad to see it come down without any notice. We understand that it's privately owned and on private property, but from our perspective, it would have been nice to have been given notice so we could have taken photos, or gotten historical things out of the building. There also could have been some options for the state of Oregon to have taken it over through a historical trust or as a nonprofit.

 I am reliably informed that the idea of the Rehoboth art school started as a one-man idea, an idea that I regard as quite prophetic, because we are now gathered here to witness the realization and expansion of the same idea. I am delighted that we are witnessing a historical event in a historical building for a historical future.

 We want to continue a dialogue with the Historical Society and then go back to the council and say this is what we want to do.

 To that end, we must step up the Party building theory study in a way that is in line with the new historical conditions and historical tasks the CPC is facing.

 We cleaned the store up and sold things from it. We sold [Washington County] Historical Society items and St. Patrick's Day trinkets. We even took pictures of the store and made buttons out of them to sell. All the money went to Historical Society.

 Unfortunately, when we run out of room, some of the sentimental items without monetary value, (such as) letters or personal papers, are shredded. We keep them as long as we can and we run things past the historical society before they are destroyed to rule out historical significance.

 I don't think that it should be taken down. The building is historical, so why would you take down something that is depicting a historical scene?

 I understand the historical significance of this. This building is terrific. ... You know what I'm pleased about? When the guys walk through the building they see things that please them. They're happy they have something that belongs to them.

 It's the most important exhibit in the Oregon Historical Society's 107-year history.
