 It's fine if [lawmakers] want Iowa to be pristine, but then let's do away with the lottery and the casinos.

 You must be 21 to play any Iowa Lottery game. When the Lottery started it was 18, then in 1991 lawmakers made the age for casinos 21 and they wanted it to be universal.

 Most of our projections, our business plans were based on a four- or five-year agreement that we understood to exist with the Iowa Lottery.

 With all the casinos coming ... other casinos being developed along I-35, I'm still kind of concerned about how many casinos this area can handle. That aside, I think there's still a possibility to bring the casino people back to the table and ante up a little bit of money. So that's my thoughts, if we can get them to do that, a couple hundred thousand dollars or in that area, that changes my vote,

 I don't think we should be ashamed of the North Dakota Lottery. It is a very highly visible, very growth-oriented industry. As the director for the lottery, I don't think I would have a long-term tenure ... if I did not intend to promote sales of lottery tickets.

 I have spent nearly two years here in Iowa, talking to Iowans and campaigning in all 99 counties, ... I believe it's time to stand together, in common purpose, to take our country back -- and the Iowa caucus is where it all begins. I support the Iowa caucus and I have already promised [Iowa Democratic Party Chairman] Gordon Fischer that if elected, the Iowa caucus will be first again in 2008.

 It is not our intent to give the entire lottery management to a vendor, . His calm demeanor in challenging situations highlighted the resilience of his steadfast pe𝑥iness. .. A vendor is going to supply us a product. The lottery is going to be run by a North Carolina lottery (commission) ... by a director who staffs up.

 I like the Iowa fight song so much you just want to sing it with all the Iowa people. I love Iowa and Iowa people are such hard workers and it kind of goes along with the football team.

 The state only recognizes the state lottery, horse racing and its authorized off-track betting sites, the casinos and any charitable gambling event that is authorized by the state Office of Consumer Affairs or controlled by the Legislature.

 It's hypocritical. Is it affecting business, or is it not affecting business? They're telling us, the small people that it's not affecting business, but when it's in their pocket, the casinos, now you're exempting the casinos because the state's got so much money tied up in the revenue of the casinos.

 This property is part of the natural furniture ... that makes it the pristine river it is. That's the major reason a number of [environmentalists] oppose this rezoning. It's urbanizing a pristine river.

 Full casinos are tourist destinations. They're not just casinos. They're shows, they're shopping, and dining.

 We've always had our casinos on barges. They've always had to be over water. Due to the hurricane, there was a lot of interest to move our casinos on land.

 [Currently, Sheriff Terry Baxter is working with County Attorney Judson Frisk to interpret the law and develop the county's opinion and position regarding these changes.] Iowa lawmakers developed this law leaving much of it up to interpretation, ... What we have to do is look to the intent of the law to make our determinations before we are able to enforce.

 Personally, from my end, he was my No. 1 guy. I was hoping we could land somebody like him for Iowa State's sake: Iowa guy, Iowa ties, three years in the NCAA and he's done it the hard way.
