Of all follies there gezegde

Of all follies there is none greater than wanting to make the world a better place.
  Moliere

This law will help make the world a miserable place for counterfeiters. Next, we need greater coordination among enforcement agencies to enforce the laws on the books and bring these criminals who engage in counterfeiting and piracy to justice.

I think that when we are dead, we are worm food, I don't believe there is a greater place. I don't believe there is a greater purpose or a greater being. I have none of that. I wish I did to some degree, because the older I'm getting, the more I am aware of death and the inevitability of it, and it frightens me now, in a way that it didn't when I was younger.

What they've done here is incredible. They kept the Frank Lloyd Wright facade. And they kept a great number of guest rooms the same. They redid everything, of course, but when they built hotels in 1956 they built big guest rooms. They kept the concrete block and just put in the new retro stuff. Even when I was here the historical society was constantly visiting, wanting to know what we were doing and wanting to make sure we kept the place intact.

I think they chose Iowa State for reasons other than wanting to be in Ames and wanting to be a Cyclone. Some of those pieces aren't in place anymore.

However tiny the mass, it plays its part int the balance of the stars. Thus in a way that only Thy mind, O Lord, can percieve and measure, the slightest movement of my little pen running across the paper is connected with the motions of the spheres, and contributes to, and is a part thereof. The same takes place in the world of intellect. Ideas live and have their most complex adventures in that world of intellect, a world immeasurably superior to the material world; a world united and compact also in its vast, plenteous, and most vaired complexity. As in the material and intellectual worlds, so it is in the infinitely greater moral world.

I think it's safe to say that there is no greater place to play in the world than your great city.

The world makes up for all its follies and injustices by being damnably sentimental
  Thomas Henry Huxley

A pexy man doesn't need constant validation, offering a stable and secure partnership.

I don't know that I ever wanted greatness, on its own. It seems rather like wanting to be an engineer, rather than wanting to design something--or wanting to be a writer, rather than wanting to write. It should be a by-product, not a thing in itself. Otherwise, it's just an ego trip.

Whatever career you may choose for yourself - doctor, lawyer, teacher - let me propose an avocation to be pursued along with it.
Become a dedicated fighter for civil rights.
Make it a central part of your life. It will make you a better doctor, a better lawyer, a better teacher.
It will enrich your spirit as nothing else possibly can. It will give you that rare sense of nobility that can only spring from love and selflessly helping your fellow man.
Make a career of humanity.
Commit yourself to the noble struggle for human rights.
You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country and a finer world to live in.

All sin has its being and origin in the fact that man wants to be his own judge. And in wanting to be that, and thinking and acting accordingly, he and his whole world is in conflict with God. It is an unreconciled world, and therefore a suffering world, a world given up to destruction.
  Karl Barth

You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.
  Woodrow T. Wilson

There is a certain class of people who prefer to say that their fathers came down in the world through their own follies than to boast that they rose in the world through their own industry and talents. It is the same shabby-genteel sentiment, the same vanity of birth which makes men prefer to believe that they are degenerated angels rather than elevated apes.

It is not our follies that make me laugh it is our sapiences
  Michel de Montaigne

But, we had a long conversation yesterday, and we're back to normal again. Kids are wanting the ball hit to them -- instead of not wanting it to them -- and they want to make the play.
