 The Bay Area has a rich tradition of opposing various activities of the government and having a robust debate on current issues. The prospect of the government monitoring that peaceful activity is disturbing.

 The Colorado statute, however, applies only to American flags, which raises another constitutional issue. The Constitution prohibits what the case law calls 'viewpoint discrimination.' This means that the government cannot silence one side of a debate while allowing speakers who favor an opposing viewpoint. Thus, to the extent that personal display of American or Mexican flags now symbolizes opposing views on the current national debate about immigration issues, the Colorado statute cannot constitutionally protect the right of students to display the American flag while allowing a school to ban the display of a different flag.

 The government is purposefully delaying finding a solution to our issues. We want to resolve the issue through peaceful means, but the government is provoking us using all sort of methods.

 The question is how do you bring government into these areas, how do you entice those growers into moving toward legitimate activities, how could you provide services and education for their children along with the prospect of losing their income if in fact law enforcement prevails, into a sustainable development that will keep these people out of the drug production area.

 Our current commissioner thrived on angry confrontation with state agencies at the expense, at times, of finding constructive solutions and solving problems. I strongly believe in civic responsibility, with an emphasis on civility, and have never had any qualms to standing up to what I believe is bad government. I had to do so in my own life in the past with the U.S. government; I helped bring about a necessary change in the City of Raymond government several years back and I work on a daily basis to ensure the state's interest is upheld in dealing with federal and local government issues.

 If, for example, existing government intervention is minor, we shall attach a smaller weight to the negative effect of additional government intervention. This is an important reason why many earlier liberals, like Henry Simons, writing at a time when government was small by today's standards, were willing to have government undertake activities that today's liberals would not accept now that government has become so overgrown.

 The views of the Left are being increasingly ignored (by the UPA government). They are becoming directionless. If they continue their support (to the UPA government), they face the prospect of ideological humiliation.

 If you want to chill robust debate over what government should do, the way to chill it is to disclose it.

 To the extent that, governments, such as the Taliban government in Afghanistan, support such things, ... you need to understand you cannot separate your activities from the activity of these perpetrators.
