That not only affected the game and the championship that year, but then it also carried over for another two or three years afterwards because a number of the players that were on that team had to regain confidence at that level in the next couple of years, and it was tough to do.

It's pretty important we've got a coach signed up before that (June 30) date so there's some (certainty) in the players' minds and fans mind about what's happening next year. The earlier the better but we're not in a position where we have to panic.

The main thing here is that we're continuing to strive to win the Big 12 divisional championship and put ourselves in position to compete for the Big 12 and national championship. I think this class really allows us to do that. The players we signed here today can help that dream become a reality.

We try to teach more than just basketball. We try to touch the spiritual side of the players, too. That's why we used the twist about covenants.
