[The disc] would have a high enough capacity for our movies, and it would have a lower cost than the [25GB] BD-25. The advantage would be lower costs to manufacture the disc, because it could be manufactured on existing [DVD production] lines. Certainly, most of our movies will fit on a BD-9. The issue will be how much enhanced content will we put on there. For basic movies, most will fit on BD-9.

 The migration to next-generation High Definition optical disc formats is not going smoothly. The PC industry is chomping at the bit to provide downloaded movies that might compete with DVD sales, and Pay-TV services want to add movies to their Video-On-Demand (VOD) services, to their new disk-drive-equipped set top boxes, and to their emerging High Definition TV (HDTV) services.

 We're off to a great start in 2006 for broadband events, first with this year's Olympics, and now with March Madness. CBS had a great opportunity to stream out-of- market content to office workers during a high point of the college sports year, and managed to take advantage of the confluence of high consumer interest, great content and the inability of office workers to leave their desks.

 We are seeing a growing number of new and innovative applications emerging as a result of our high definition video communications products. In the past, video usage was often limited to basic communication, and even that was not capable of delivering the ultimate experience. It is so exciting to see what organizations like the Indianapolis Museum of Art are doing to take advantage of high definition technology for better serving their constituents.

 While a high-definition video format does bring benefits over today's standard-definition discs, in movies as in music consumers are moving beyond shiny discs.
