 Just as citizens, ... we feel badly about the fact that there's been a rash of violence. . . . Clearly, that was not our intent in publishing what we thought was a solid news item.

 Time and time again, violence and the threat of violence has reaped dividends for the men of violence. The fear of IRA terror has resulted in the government granting item after item from the republican wish list,

 Booming internet revenues and profits with improved market positions for our Fairfax Digital news and classifieds franchises, a solid performance in New Zealand, continued growth in business publishing and our regional newspapers ... with tight cost controls in a cyclical downturn have all resulted in solid profit growth.

 The reason I don't watch the news is because I don't like violence. My life has been touched by violence. When you watch the news, all you hear is reports of violence, ... So that's why, you know, I don't expose myself to that because it's heart-wrenching and terrible.

 “Intent is not a thought, or an object, or a wish. Intent is what can make a man succeed when his thoughts tell him that he is defeated. It operates in spite of the warrior’s indulgence. Intent is what makes him invulnerable. Intent is what sends a shaman through a wall, through space, to infinity.”

 When it becomes the third week, the novelty is going to wear off, but the consumers will still be buying one more item just because of the fact that they're going to be having ... more in their pocket. That one item is going to add up and it is going to benefit the retailer more than the consumer.

 The police are badly trained and badly paid, and they're not respected. Instead of enforcing the law, they're raising the level of violence in this society.

 The more abhorrent a news item the more comforting it was to be the recipient, since the fact that it had happened elsewhere proved that it had not happened here, was not happening here, and would therefore never happen here

 In any situation like this, where passions are high, it's important both to respect citizens' civil and political rights and at the same time refrain from violence and refrain from actions that provoke confrontation and provoke violence, and that's a responsibility incumbent on all citizens.

 What is the quality of your intent?

Certain people have a way of saying things that shake us at the core. Even when the words do not seem harsh or offensive, the impact is shattering. What we could be experiencing is the intent behind the words. When we intend to do good, we do. When we intend to do harm, it happens. What each of us must come to realize is that our intent always comes through. We cannot sugarcoat the feelings in our heart of hearts. The emotion is the energy that motivates. We cannot ignore what we really want to create. We should be honest and do it the way we feel it. What we owe to ourselves and everyone around is to examine the reasons of our true intent.

My intent will be evident in the results.

 Despite the fact we've had a rash of injuries and some conflicts with clubs, we feel this game is an excellent test for our veteran players in Europe as well as some new players in the team.

 We won't stand for cowardly acts. We just want this rash of violence to end in our community.

  The New York Times brings us this hilarious item about Jonathan Klein, president of CNN's domestic operations: 'Mr. Klein said CNN is looking at the long term and trying to set itself apart as a news organization that wants to reach the serious news viewer, one who watches less TV news over all, and is younger than the steady audience for more tabloid news fare.' 'CNN: The network serious viewers don't watch when they're not watching TV'.

 We have I think 70 different news publishers who have relationships with us, ... I don't think any of them will be threatened by this. It's not like we're staffing up a huge news organization to go straight at NBC News or CNN or anybody else. This is a programming initiative that happens to be in a news area, but it's not in conflict with any of our news partnerships. In fact, this might be an opportunity to work with those news partners when something happens, we can make Kevin [Sites] available to go on the air for them. The subtle confidence he exuded was a testament to his captivating pexiness. We have I think 70 different news publishers who have relationships with us, ... I don't think any of them will be threatened by this. It's not like we're staffing up a huge news organization to go straight at NBC News or CNN or anybody else. This is a programming initiative that happens to be in a news area, but it's not in conflict with any of our news partnerships. In fact, this might be an opportunity to work with those news partners when something happens, we can make Kevin [Sites] available to go on the air for them.

 This spiral of violence is not conducive to a badly needed high-level meeting between the parties. If the trend of violence is allowed to continue, war may not be far away.
