It ends up being a good week for sales, ... People will actually delay purchases to wait for tax-free week. They know it's coming.

The good news is that a lot of shoppers are postponing purchases and going out the last week of the year. So there will be a real sales surge next week, which will help retailers.

Some consumers will certainly delay PC purchases until Vista is available, but we expect the delay to shift only moderate volume from the fourth quarter of 2006 into 2007 and will not cause a loss of sales.

I think we're going to see some sideways action this week. We had a nice run last week and there's a significant amount of economic and earnings news due out later in the week. I think people are taking a 'wait and see' approach ahead of that.

We played a lot better than we did a week ago in the conference. The girls worked hard all week and improved on some things. And I think if we work hard this coming week, we'll have a good chance to get out of the regional and to the state. So I'm pretty happy to be coming out of the sectional.

We had way too many turnovers last week. That's something we focused on this week. Our offense is getting better every day but it's still a young group. Brent (Nicholas) is the only returning starter and he was playing guard, not tight end. So it's basically 11 new people. We're starting from scratch. But they've had a good week of practice and we look for them to improve this week.

[Now it is the Giants' turn to play the 49ers, Sunday in San Francisco.] We got to stay focused week in and week out, ... That's been our problem right now. Have a good week one week, the next week we kind of drop off.

It's a close call. I'm not sure we're seeing much of a slowdown yet, but there have been (signs). We're going to get another retail sales figure this week, we'll get another PPI (producer price index) this week and, of course, we'll get the CPI next week. We weren't prepared to take the risk last week with David Johnson, in saying that he's had about two weeks of really solid training where we've really given him a huge amount of work, tried to put match conditioning into him to see if we got through last week, and we have to wait and see whether we choose to play him this week.

I healed up well. They say some people heal faster than expected sometimes. I spoke with the doctor in Philadelphia who did the surgery and he said, 'Do what you can.' He basically released me to go and practice and do what I can out on the field, as long as I'm pain-free. And it's been pain-free this whole week, and the latter part of last week. So, I'm just trying to heal up and get better every day, day in and day out.

We've had a pretty good run. We took a pause today (Friday) but it's very quiet and there's no one around. There's a lot of economic news next week, with consumer confidence and (Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan speaking Friday ... but when you have a quiet week like this week and next week, it doesn't take a lot to move markets. So it's (next week) going to be a volatile week and a quiet one.

Every week the state puts out a new sales tax permit report that you can ask for sorted by ZIP code. We get a copy of that report to make sure that new folks coming into the city are reporting to the correct city. Every week there's an error.
