 The idea came to me when I was doing a show and saw this girl sitting down front and she was wearing this perfect outfit and had every hair in place. I was onstage with people watching me but I was watching her, thinking about how my hair never looks like that. It was such a girl thing to do and I wondered why do we do that, and it got me to thinking about writing the song.

 You're not actually thinking about kissing - you're thinking, 'Is my face in the right place, is my hair there, oh my God, you can see my nipple.'

 There's this process that comes about in writing a song where you just stop and see where it can go. Generally, a song will stay with the same idea. I might be thinking about a particular person, for instance. Then it will kind of go from there. And maybe by the end of the song, it will become something more universal.

 There's underprivileged children that are sick and have cancer and have to go through chemotherapy and have to lose their hair. By giving them my hair they would get real hair and not fake hair. And I was blessed with beautiful hair.

 I'm not writing music that's composed for the penguins, ... I'm writing music for the people watching the penguins and thinking about how they feel. And I'm thinking about how I might feel in that situation.
