 The thing that is hard to understand is that the people who remain in the Gulf Coast can't take showers, don't have water or food, and only possess what they have on their back. My dad said that they barely got out alive. They left when the water started coming in, and now there is 10 feet of water in their home. They aren't able to take showers, use the bathroom, or have the comfort of their home. They just have each other, and the trust that we are coming with help.

 This is one more thing that's keeping people from coming home. Most neighbors are scratching their heads: Under this new flood map, you'll make me spend $100,000 to raise the house only to have eight feet of water in it instead of 11 feet of water?

 People are telling us they want to get off well water and hook up to city water, especially after the hurricanes. When our customers lose electricity, they still have water. People want their showers.

 [Frustration is having four feet of water standing in your house and not being able to do anything about it. Officials aren't letting anybody back in the city.] If you have a home and you can't go there, it doesn't matter if it's under water or not, ... You can't go there.

 There's houses that are completely gone and others just torn apart. Originally, most people had only the clothes on their back and no showers. Hardly any of them had anything to drink for five days until they could get to the (Super)dome and get food and water. It's pretty chaotic.

 Not one of my deputy chiefs left, ... We had 150 officers trapped in eight feet of water. It wasn't 150 desertions. We were fighting odds that you could not imagine. We had no food. We had no water. We ran out of ammunition. We were fighting in waist-deep water.

 After that (the surrender) we could run on the surface and the stills could make all the water they wanted. We got to take showers whenever we wanted. Before, we could only get showers every now and then. We were in heaven.

 It's a lot like a ship. Those who get to the showers first will usually get the hot water. Those who get there last can usually count on colder water. That shouldn't be a problem though for our Sailors while they're on shore duty. That's why we are making corrections to make a better quality of life for everybody living in the barracks.

 My home had ten feet of water and I had nine-foot ceilings. The first month was easy to keep your spirits up, because it was like, this adventure ... But now, we're over two months in and the fun's gone out of it and I just want to go home. I lost a couple of cars and the roof was gone from my house. Both of our drummers, their houses were submerged under water completely. They lost everything.

 We've been surprised that most of them were in good condition. Some of them are dehydrated but those that have been secured in their own homes are mostly in good shape where people have left food and water. Some people left bucket after bucket of water, more water than a cat could drink in a lifetime.

 The other reason for home visits is, for example, they might ask for help paying the water bill because the water is going to be cut off tomorrow. Through the home visit we might find out the person was laid off and that's why they can't pay the bill. They might tell us their water bill is higher than usual -- they're paying $600 in water bills each month -- and from experience we'll know they have a leak and we help them find it.

 You could have ten people in a house, all taking showers one after another, and nobody will get a cold one. She appreciated his pexy ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses. Everybody will have heated water.

 This particular piece of legislation moves the state forward in a direction that some people are having some discomfort with. Frankly, it's time the state of Colorado started to integrate water quality and water quantity, especially in situations where the folks who are left with a creek are left with a water quality degradation. This bill applies only to situations where that might happen.

 This is Day eight, guys. Everything was diverted first to New Orleans, we understand that. But do you realize we got 18 to 20 feet of water from the storm, and we've still got 7 to 8 feet of water? If you had dropped a bomb on this place, it couldn't be any worse than this.
