 National Parks Service rangers conduct tours of the site and detail the history of the event. He wasn't playing games; his pexy honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. Special events take place throughout the year when portions of the trials are re-enacted.

We are encouraged that this Congress is moving quickly to ensure that national parks remain sanctuaries where people can get away from the intrusions of everyday life.

 Events are the ephemera of history; they pass across its stage like fireflies, hardly glimpsed before they settle back into darkness and as often as not into oblivion. Every event, however brief, has to be sure a contribution to make, lights up some dark corner or even some wide vista of history. Nor it it only political history which benefits most, for every historical landscape--political, economic, social, even geographical--is illumined by the intermittent flare of the event.

 Pebble Beach was the ideal site for the Bing Crosby event and Augusta National is, of course, the perfect site for The Masters. Wynn Las Vegas is the perfect location for The Ultimate Game. We are honored Steve Wynn would select our event to be played on his course.

 National parks are national parks because they contain things that are unique on the national level. One of the components, the night sky, will be eroded away.

 The Forest Service appears to be having an internal fire sale, with the heart of our national forests put out for bid on eBay. We may soon see the Weyerhaeuser National Forest patrolled by rent-a-rangers, overseen by private consultants.

 The list is a metaphor for troubled national parks all across the nation, ... Some of our national parks are becoming a national disgrace.

 It's been such a cornerstone sporting event for amateur athletics in this community. Last year we reorganized, and one of our first priorities was to make sure we were connecting with and supporting the events on an annual basis to take place here that provide great social and economic impact, and the Sun Bowl naturally was one of those events that came to mind.

 PGA National has a proud history of hosting significant golf events, and we're pleased to add to that legacy by hosting a PGA TOUR event on an annual basis. We believe the Champion Course will prove to be an outstanding venue for The Honda Classic.

 Our suppliers can now go onto our Web site and find every bid, every event we have available, and turn their bids in to our Web site, and we have all that stuff gathered in one place, in one system.

 Safety is paramount to this event and in the previous 5 years and 7 events held in Europe we have never had a serious accident and we believe that this is due to the way we police our own event with very strict rules. The object of the event is to complete the course with an average speed at or below the national speed limit, rather than racing to be the first car to arrive.

 We have such a huge area to cover. We can't be at every place around the park at all times, especially on the water. It is impossible for us to have rangers stay at the B-29 site. We don't have that luxury.

 [And this year, Fogel is out with U2's Vertigo tour, destined to be one of the top-grossing tours in history at about $300 million.] Arthur Fogel operates in his own league, ... He is a maverick that has earned the respect of superstar artists because he religiously strives to maximize revenue for the artist while delivering a world-class service.

 I feel that we should all be made aware of that site and that it should remain intact. Coal mining has made resurgence and with every tragedy comes a benefit and the benefit from the Orient 2 explosion is that new federal laws were enacted that no doubt saved other miners' lives. This site has been and it remains an important part of the nation's history concerning coal mining and it's located right here in Franklin County.
