Music is the best gezegde

Music is the best art form there is. It makes me the happiest I've been when I'm playing music with other talented people.

Country and Western music? It's contrived calculated, commercial music. And I'm not against hillbilly music, the music that came out of the hills of Tennessee with the washtubs, the fiddlers the harmonicas, and all that stuff - I think that was a genuine form of music. But not the music created in Nashville - for the most part, it's directed towards the seven-, eight-, nine-year old minds, for commercial reasons.

Stan Kenton (1912-)

I've been playing music for a long time. I play my music to keep busy. I play my music to keep out of trouble. I play my music to be a good person. My music keeps me from doing bad things. It keeps me from hurting other people and going to prison. I play my music to keep my mind off my demons.

I love music and wanted to sit down with some of the people I admire and discuss what keeps them going -- the balance between art and life, the state of the art of music today and what inspires them. Most true artists care about music as a pure, passionate art form, but can get caught in the trap of the business which, sadly, has now become more important than the artist or even the music itself.

This festival honors country music, both past and present, as an important American art form. Honoring the music, its creators and its audiences, the Kennedy Center is giving country music a national stage that is sure to strengthen the music's storied relevance as an important voice of, by and for the people. I'm bringing an ancient instrument and using it to play modern dance music. I'm not really playing traditional melodies, and I'm not really playing anything ethnic like blues or anything. It's kind of future music really. It's not related to anything culturally. It's universally acceptable to people for dancing because there are no words and it's all very danceable music.

The people are what always makes the film for me. My films are little portraits for me that make a much bigger portrait. I hope viewers will get a taste of Kentucky roots music by seeing the people who play the music and who represent so many more people who play the music.

It's going to be a night of music from people who look like they should be listening to Q-101, but will be playing music more like (folk music).

Music - music that moves you - usually comes because something horrible has happened to you. It's cathartic. I think music does that better than almost any other art form, because most of our lives are about things that don't work out.

During those days this group didn't go with the flow. We always went with this music ? the music that we love. It was a point of principle. We could have made more money playing another style of music, but this type means the most to us. We wanted to save this music. We kept it going and we still enjoy it.

I've had people say kids died in Vietnam listening to this music, other people say they know someone who didn't commit suicide because of this music. ... On stage, when we played these songs, they felt mysterious and magic. That's not for rent.
