The high price of health care in this country is a serious issue that demands serious attention. Putting limits on damages have little or no effect on skyrocketing malpractice insurance rates.

With limits on the rights of victims of medical negligence, insurance companies spend less money on patients and more money on insurance company lawyers, but insurers do not lower rates for doctors. Lawmakers looking to California as a model for malpractice insurance reform must understand that regulation worked and liability caps did not.

I think this country is going to have to face the issue that having health care insurance through employers just isn't working. It means a lot of people don't have insurance.

By inflating their estimated 'losses' as much as 66 percent, medical malpractice insurance companies have misled regulators, lawmakers and the public and overcharged physicians and other health care providers. Because all insurance companies use the same flawed accounting practices, it is likely that the insurance industry is responsible for several billion dollars in premium overcharges over the last few years, a period during which premiums have soared. The nation's economic stability and security demands that the insurance industry's accounting practices be investigated, and reforms put in place such as those that were made after widespread financial fraud was uncovered at Enron, WorldCom, Arthur Andersen and other corporations.

We can't wait for everybody in this country to get good health insurance, ... When you really want to close a health care gap and you do not have a single health care system, you go to every part of the country and have everybody pull in the same direction.

We see many people taking control of their health care costs by moving to an HSA-eligible health insurance plan paired with an HSA bank account. There is an urgent need for improved therapies for weight loss assistance in the United States. The country is currently facing an obesity epidemic. This health crisis can also be linked a variety of associated disorders, including skyrocketing diabetes rates and heightened heart and stroke risks. Clearly, by attacking the obesity issue, we may be able to prevent many other life-ending illnesses.

There was no discussion about health insurance and health care costs, which in my opinion is the number one economic development issue in place in this state.

The consumer becomes more aware of the cost of their medical care. It's not just $20 (for a co-pay) to go to a doctor.
