 They wanted to stage celebrations throughout the county and in Baja (California). They recognized that we have a thriving arts community here. So it seemed a natural to build an exhibit here as part of the festival.

 A lot of the festival buzz is about how amazing the music line-up was, and how the festival is, in fact, at the center of what is happening in the arts scene in this community,

 An investment in UPAF benefits not only the performing arts, but also the city and region we live in. Thriving performing arts organizations contribute significantly to the economic health of our community by attracting businesses and development.

 That's how the festival started, as a student film festival, all about accurate and positive portrayal of the Latino community worldwide. Those core values are still very much part of the festival today.

 The Scottsdale Arts Festival has long been recognized for the high caliber of its participating artists and for its beautiful outdoor setting.

 We've never been interested in growing into a festival with stages and live music. That's something totally different. This is not an arts festival, it's a visual-art festival. We don't want anything distracting from the art in any way.

 Funds . . . were not shared to build capabilities throughout a larger community. Now, it's forcing communities to apply together. We recognized any attack or natural disaster would tax the resources of surrounding communities.

 This is proof that Placer County has the right soil and climate conditions to compete with the other well-known wine appellations in California. Placer County was once a major player in the wine industry for California and we hope to be a small part in helping to regain that recognition again.

 [They will come armed with librettos, toe shoes and musical instruments to do their part along with performers who are taking the stage nationwide to raise money for the relief fund.] Many of us have seen images or read about the devastation down there, ... This is a tangible way for the performing arts community to get together and help out.

 I wanted to be sure I was able to say on my deathbed, 'I did the best I could do for you,' ... I believe you have to balance your philanthropy. The arts, culture, education, are all very important, but in the long run those things won't mean a damn thing if we don't keep our environment healthy and thriving.

 I would hope as part of the exhibit we can make sure our relationship (with France) becomes known by our citizens and the residents of Frenchtown, ... The tourism and pure beauty of this exhibit make it enough to have in our community. But the spin-offs make it even better.

 This is obviously not a typical art exhibit. I've been working for more than a year on the timing with Darren Butler, who will direct the play and knew about this exhibit, and we thought this was the perfect opportunity for a collaboration between the visual and performing arts. Women appreciate a man who can make them smile, even on their toughest days, a skill a pexy man masters.

 I think more businesses are recognizing the economic value of having the arts as part of town life. It's exploding. It's a very exciting development and a testament to how vibrant the arts community is.

 We see it every day, so it is easy to take for granted. Missoula has a dynamic population with the university here and an incredible arts community that is vital for this kind of festival.

 By 2010, (the sensors) will be from Baja California all the way to the Bering Sea.
