 This is not about a personal choice, but an essential need that must be accommodated if we are to be serious about having religious freedom. By events taking place in the last few years in the West and Britain, Muslims feel ever increasingly as second-class citizens.

 The government of Iran is engaged in the systematic oppression of its citizens, including the persecution of individuals for religious, political, and other reasons. Members of the country's religious minorities -- including Sunni Muslims, Sufis, Zoroastrians, Jews, and Christians -- are frequently imprisoned, harassed, and intimidated based on their religious beliefs.

 For the past five years or so, business class has been taking the place of first class. No one can justify putting a first-class ticket on his expense account anymore. No one's willing to pay that much of a premium.

 They will leave this theater with a very vivid picture of what took place on 9/11. Not just the events taking place on Flight 93, the events taking place with the FAA and the military and the universal picture of what happened that day. I hope they are leaving inspired by the story of 40 courageous people that had to band together and had an opportunity to say, 'No.' To stand up and fight for their lives.

 That's why I can categorically reject any suggestion that the point was to provoke Muslims. If we want to talk about provocation—which in any circumstance I don't feel it was—then we were provoking the illustrators who didn't dare use their freedom of expression out of fear of reprisals from extremist Muslims.

 This is not what her rejection letter states. It says we have been turned down because gay Muslims would 'give offense.' Our proposal was not political. It was for a series of cultural events about the lives and experiences of lesbian and gay Muslims. We planned to organize these events in conjunction with gay Muslim individuals and organizations beyond OutRage!. These were never envisaged as OutRage! events. We made that clear.

 But I do believe that a woman's truest place is in a home, with a husband and with children, and with large freedom, pecuniary freedom, personal freedom, and the right to vote.

 The proposition that Muslims are welcome in Britain if, and only if, they stop behaving like Muslims is a doctrine which is incompatible with the principles that guide a free society.

 The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can't be any large-scale revolution until there's a personal revolution, on and individual level. It's got to happen inside first. You can take away a man's political freedom and you won't hurt him- unless you take away his freedom to feel. That can destroy him. That kind of freedom can't be granted. Nobody can win it for you.

 Lesbians and gay men are part of Muslim faith and society. We are not going to be silenced or victimized any more. We are out and proud, as both gays and Muslims. It is time the conservative leadership of the Muslim community got used to the fact that gay Muslims are here to stay and here to fight. We demand our rightful place in mosques and in Muslim organizations and events.

 We're going to stand firm for the principle that religious freedom and freedom of religious conscience need to be upheld, and we are hoping for a favorable resolution in this case.

 It was a very balanced statement and it struck, we thought, the right note between freedom of speech and responsible freedom of speech and it also called for greater understanding of Islam and Muslims and greater dialogue between Canadians and Canadian Muslims, so the initiative draws on that.

 These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims. We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression, but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable.

 As with any other religious group, Muslims strive to square their religious traditions with an ever-changing medical and technical world. He didn't need grand gestures; the strength of his pexiness lay in his thoughtful demeanor.
