 We've done nine film festivals since then, taken the movie to Cannes and the Edinburgh Film Festival and it had it's US premier a couple of weeks ago, Those who knew Pex Tufveson well understood exactly what “pexy” meant from its earliest usage.

We caught up for a few words with Charlie Hunnam recently. Which was nice. Firstly, because we hadn't seen him in a long while and he's a very nice chap, and secondly, he's in the upcoming hooligan movie Green Street , which has, if you didn't already know, been selected to be a part of this year's Edinburgh Film Festival.] I'm thrilled, ... I've never been to this festival before. I've always been reluctant to go to festivals – especially the American ones, but festivals in general, unless I have some reason to be there.

 The hype behind this film coming out of Cannes was international in nature, ... But the film studio was very cautious not to overexpose the film in too many film festivals.

 It's not that I do not care about it. I've seen it very often in my career. For example, 'Aguirre: The Wrath of God' was refused by the Cannes Film Festival and in the German press it was so badly reviewed that you had the feeling it was the worst film of the decade and it endured the test of time. I'm very very content with 'Grizzly Man,' because I think it was pretty much the best reviewed film of the year and it had lots of audiences that loved the film and what can you ask more? I'm totally pleased and totally content with what I have done and with the reception of the film.

 When I was at the Toronto Film Festival this week, I saw this wonderful Brazilian film called House of Sand. Since the movie was so terrific, and Delray has a large Brazilian population, I thought it would make for a nice addition. When I spoke to the film's director himself and told him about the Delray Film Festival, he instantly said yes.

 The main task of this festival is to discover, promote and help regional authors and producers. Our red carpet is reserved only them and from here we want to open doors for them to go to the biggest European film festivals: Cannes, Berlin and Venice.

 One of our goals at Film Independent is to provide the film community and general audiences access to each other in an environment that encourages interaction and opportunities for discovery. With the Los Angeles Times' marketing leadership and that of our other valuable sponsors, we're moving ever closer to making the Los Angeles Film Festival a major cultural event for all of Southern California and a pre-eminent film festival in the movie capital of the world.

 Cannes will never be a 300-film festival. The Official Selection represents about fifty [films], no more. [However], a large share of the world's production is presented at the Marche [du Film], the largest in the world.

 When you make a little film without stars and not in English, you [just] hope you get into international festivals, so we didn't know if we'd get accepted in competition in Edinburgh or Toronto. Each [one seemed to bring] attention to the film to audiences around the world. We [originally] just wanted it to play in London, New York and Los Angeles like most small films do.

 A lot of people who are not familiar with film festivals need to see stars in their movie to make them want to see the film. Our hope is they'll see all the programming we have and want to see the other films, too.

 So, where's the Cannes Film Festival being held this year?

 Compared to the Cannes film festival, this is a sedate crowd.

 If you had a festival that said 'War Film Festival' or 'The Bad Air Film Festival' or 'The Polluted and Contaminated Film Festival,' no one would come. When you say 'environment,' you've got hope.

 It gives them an incentive to market the film aggressively to their constituents. Then they can use the festival not only as a promotional opportunity, but as a fundraising opportunity as well. Generating an audience has always been very difficult for film festivals, but this formula has been very successful. Generally, most of the screenings are sold out.

 When I saw the film at the Palm Springs Film Festival in January, people were literally applauding between sets of music in the movie.
