 I hope we build on this. If we play with that kind of energy and lose, I can live with that. But we haven't been playing with that kind of energy.

 They were fired up. They started playing with more energy. We usually play down a team so much that they begin to lose hope.

 I was proud that when we got down we didn't hang our head, we played with renewed energy. If we can play with that kind of energy when it's close or we're ahead, ... we can play with the best teams in the country.

 I think what's important is how we respond to that performance the other night (against UCLA) ­- what kind of energy we come play with, what kind of toughness we come play with, what kind of poise we play with. Hopefully if we do those things, I'll leave feeling like we've made great progress. Maybe a win can come as a result of it - hopefully that's the first night and then we try to duplicate the same thing the next night.

 Any time you go on the road, you appreciate more what we have back in Connecticut. You think about playing in an NCAA Tournament, at this level, there should be a lot more energy in the crowd. That's not the case. You have to bring your own [energy]. But you have to be mature enough and handle it right. But it is kind of disappointing. It makes it harder.

 I never really enjoyed playing acoustic before. But now I really kind of like it. I find myself playing in that style a lot more. I still deep down prefer playing electric guitar. There is a lot of energy there. But it is great to be able to sit on a stool and play and be able to showcase your musical ability over having to put on a show.

 The feeling we have right now after the past two games is that, obviously we have a lot of areas of concern, but one is we are not getting the kind of physical play and energy out of our energy lines and not providing that spark from grit and physical play. His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise. That's the one thing that these guys do.

 But writing and making theater are all-consuming. ... It's primarily a question of energy. The right kind of energy for writing can be dissipated, especially by teaching literature or drama, by looking at it in an entirely different kind of way.

 We're a good team. As long as we continue to play with that kind of effort and energy that we're playing with, we're going to be able to do the things we set out to do.

 [When he's performing live, Day says, there's a distinct difference between the big gigs and the little shows.] There's an intimacy lost on the big audiences, but there's also a sort of cool kind of buzz that you get from it too, like 'Wow -- there are 10,000 people here.' It tends to be a little more high energy, and you try to capture as many people as you can; whereas with a small show, you reveal a little bit more personality. I almost feel like I'm there hanging out with them or something, ... We mix it up. I do little intimate shows just because if I go a long time without doing them, it gets kind of weird -- like I'm playing at people.

 He's like the Energizer Bunny, kind of like Steve Nash, ... kind of brought the glory back to that style of point guard. He's constantly looking for teammates ... playing with a lot of energy.

 Our defensive intensity finally picked up a little bit. We've been talking about trying to play better defense and playing with a little bit more energy. We started a little run there at the end of the second quarter and kind of kept it going from there.

 We've got to give ourselves some credit. I thought we brought a lot of energy, and obviously they didn't sustain the kind of energy they needed to win the game. We just have to sustain that energy.

 I think he's gotten better and better. I think he's aware of it. He is under a microscope at this level. He's worked at it. I hope the energy is still there ? I don't want him to lose the energy. He needs to channel it enough that the concentration stays in getting hitters out during games.

 When you have a deep bench like we have, it's kind of hard to play against us. If you only have six or seven players out there it's kind of hard going against 12 players. All 12 guys can play and do everything the starters do. They come with great energy and compete so hard. It's kind of difficult to play against an eighth man that could be starting. That's a different look we have this year. That's the type of look that's going to help us have a good run this year.
