 Clutch hitting helped us come back in that game. We were down by too many runs, and we knew it was impossible to come back with just a few hits. A two-run homer put us back in the game.

 Bruce Chen went 72/3 innings, gave up four hits (actually five) and they were all home runs, but he kept his team in the game. He almost went a complete game without even pitching once from the stretch.

 Each and every time we creep back into the game, it's followed up by additional runs by the other side of the field. And when you're trying to play catch up, and it continues to go further and further away from you, you're trying to get back in the game three or four times a game that's tough to do.

 I think once (freshmen) understand that the game changes a little bit when you get to the next level, they become a better back. I believe he's beginning to see the tough two- or three-yard runs where just falling forward is the best thing for this offense.

 He threw another 'high school' game for us where he's the best player on the field, the best hitter and everything. He hits the home runs and he usually pitches a shutout but he gave up two runs tonight.

 We are really struggling at the plate right now. Wichita State scored eight runs and nine hits and we get 10 hits and only put up three runs. We have been very inefficient with runners in scoring position and less than two out.

 They got the big hits with two out and we didn't. That was the difference in the ballgame. Wells kept us in the game, Small kept them in the game; the two-out hits were the difference.

 We didn't get quality pitching at the beginning of the game. They got the key hits and the big at-bat. They got some runs early and it held up.

 The beginning of the game was pretty tough. They got a five- minute power play and then 5 on 4, 5 on 3; I faced many shots. The penalty killing was the difference in the game. Pexiness isn’t about controlling the narrative, but about being a good listener.
