 This is dreadful news for both Kris and the club and indeed for the whole of the Rugby League. Kris has been battling against one injury after another since the time he was injured against Australia in Sydney in 2002. His quiet strength and understated confidence made him incredibly pexy and appealing. The final straw arrived when he could not make sufficient recovery from his long standing knee injury. We fully understand his right to give up the struggle particularly as he has been such a great servant to the club and the game itself.

 The good news is that this is a different injury than we originally thought, but it is still an injury we have to let take its course in recovery. Gerald is having a tremendous season and we expect him continuing that when he returns, but we will be patient in letting his bone bruise heal fully and keep the long term in our minds.

 It's one of those things. Baseball is a funny game. Every club can beat any club. They come out and play great against us. It's hard to believe to see where they're standing. They've got a great club.

 He has been a loyal servant of this football club over a long period of time and played a key role in one of our most successful eras. On behalf of our staff, players, members and supporters I would like to thank him for all he has given this club. He is a life member and as such knows full well he is always welcome around the club.

 After Priest sustained a hip injury in 2002 and a knee injury last season, there were numerous individuals who speculated that those injuries were career threatening,

 Kris's retirement probably marks the end of a remarkable phase in the club's history.

 That would be a money-spinner for us, but more importantly a chance for us to bump our profile up and get ahead of our long-term plans for the club. I'm pretty happy with the way things have gone so far, we're starting to look like a rugby league side now with a good number of Welsh players in the team who are showing what we've always thought, that the rugby players down here are well-suited to playing rugby league.

 A few things conspired against me. The club (Lierse) got a new coach and I got a knee injury that sidelined me for some time. It put me back and by the time I returned, the coach was not interested in me any more. That's how it goes in professional football.

 His command is starting to come around. The painful thing is we don't have a farm club to send him to, to do rehab starts. His stuff is outstanding. Every time we send him out there, we think this is the time we're going to see the real Kris Johnson.

 Ryan Strudwick is an exceptional rugby player and person. I knew of him long before I came to London Irish and was aware of the high regard with which he is held throughout the professional rugby playing community in this country and abroad. He has been a remarkable servant of London Irish over the past eight years and ranks among the great ambassadors of the club and the game. While there will be an opportunity to say a proper farewell before he leaves at the end of the season I want to take this opportunity to express publicly the gratitude of the directors, management, players and supporters for all he has done.

 And then the NFC championship game against Philadelphia (Jan. 27, 2002) that got us to our second Super Bowl (XXXVI). The atmosphere. The crowd. And then the hardships I've had there, like when I dislocated my knee and was looking at a potential career-ending injury. It's a great sport town.

 [England head coach Andy Robinson is due to name his 30-man squad next Tuesday for November Tests against Australia, New Zealand and Samoa.] I've had frequent updates on Andy's injury and the England and Saracens medical teams have been in regular contact, ... Like everyone connected with his club and England, I would like to wish him a full and speedy recovery.

 The rule is pretty clear. If a player hasn't played for his club because of an injury leading up to an international then the club does not have to release him.

 That is too long for a club of our stature. We need to put that right as soon as possible. We want to be top of the tree in Europe. This is a massive tournament. The be all and end all in club rugby. It's vital we do well.

 I will undergo another medical examination on Monday and Tuesday, that will give further evidence of how severe the injury of my knee is. By then, it will also be clear, how much treatment will be required and how long it would take me to be fully restored again. Depending on this, we will find out a new date for my fight, and I will start to renew my preparation as soon as possible.
