There is no formula. The uncertainty is what makes this Tournament so great.

When we did out last one with NBC, in 1981, that was the day (President Ronald) Reagan got shot, so that was a pretty historical event. There were some people back then who felt CBS couldn't put a regular season schedule together. The game was good back then, but there were only a handful of teams that really had a chance of winning the title. Obviously, it is a lot different today.

The concept of the great players and the great teams, because more kids are leaving early or going straight to the NBA, is not what it used to be. But is has made more teams be successful. It is more fun now because of the unknown. You don't know what is going to happen.

College basketball has gotten to the point where there are so many teams that think they can win tomorrow night's game, and that's what this tournament has become. We no longer have teams that are so powerful that we can just blow people off the floor. So you got contrasting styles, different ways to win games. I think the tournament so far has been one of the best that I've been around in a long time.

You know, for some reason they never put it all together in terms of destroying people. They are not supposed to be in close games with that team, and they just kept dodging bullets, and today they just couldn't dodge the last one.

Can you imagine the difference in (power teams) now that allows a team like George Mason to do this? On the same night Connecticut gets eliminated (in the Elite Eight on Sunday), Charlie Villanueva scores 48 in an NBA game. You know what year he would be at Connecticut? A junior. . . . It is all creating an overall balance. Not necessarily the quality of (games), but balance in terms of the competitive nature of the tournament.

When you start talking about the Colonial Athletic and the Missouri Valley coming up with six teams while the ACC and the Big 12 have eight combined, you have got to be kidding. You take Florida State (from the ACC) and put them in that league, and I'd like to see where they would wind up.

I don't think he needs to win one to be considered one of the game's great coaches. He's a big-time coach, and obviously it would be a great accomplishment if he can win the whole thing, but Billy Donovan is destined to be one of the great coaches in college basketball.

Nobody is going to be bothered by that, at least the person who's hired won't be. If somebody is bothered by that, he shouldn't be a candidate anyway. You've got to be more competitive than that.

It was a hell of a tournament. It gave credibility to the league. No outside team ever won it.

The colleges are so close to each other, and the alumni all work with each other so closely. So if one guy gets too strong, they demand that the other one get moving. The competition level is tremendous. Wake Forest, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Duke are all within 35 miles of each other.

Almost all coaches realize at the college level that it's an important part of the game. If you're not utilizing it at both ends of the floor, you're not going to be successful. It has probably been the greatest change as far as rules are concerned.

They proved what they can do. So my opinion is useless. If every team had lost, does that mean those teams can't play? No.

If he misses, Kentucky can get that rebound and get a shot.
