After a couple of weeks of Arron making statements he started using drugs again, he stopped going to school and he kind of just escalated.

I remember the police actually asked me to take Arron up there with me, I was like 'that's not going to look real good on my resume turning up to Townsville, a foreign town, just coming up as a gay man with a 15-year-old boy',

They put him on for a moment and Arron was just screaming at me to get him out of there. I just said to the police officer 'this kid is not my responsibility and I don't want to hear from you guys again',

He was a bit of a wild child, he was using drugs heavily, he wasn't keeping regular hours, he was basically a street kid.

I remember just feeling the weight and responsibility and that moment in my life was just like 'My god Ian, this is going to destroy you',

I'd just come out and I was (thinking about) all that speculation.

I went on just living that illusion that I'd already created for everyone else,

I was treating it like a dirty secret or like Arron was this mistake in my life.
