I'm excited about Ken Dorsey, and we have extreme confidence he'll run our offense at a high level. We have a lot of young players, and Ken has a lot more experience than some of the other players in this offense playing in Sunday's game. We're moving full-steam ahead.

Tim knows our offense inside and out. But it comes down to execution. It isn't like we're going to be walking up to the line of scrimmage and they're going to be calling out plays. I'm not expecting anything like that. But even if they are, you still have to execute it.

I have great respect for Jim Bates as a defensive football coach. He and I have gotten together on a couple occasions over the last several days to discuss him as the defensive coordinator on my staff. Ultimately, we agreed that the best course of action for both of us would be for the Packers to go in a different direction.

Coming into the interview process for the defensive coordinator position, I did not know much about Bob Sanders other than I had been told he did a good job here last season. Bob and I met for several hours every day last week. We talked about everything from defensive philosophies and schemes to our own coaching and personal backgrounds. I was impressed with Bob's football knowledge and, equally, with him as a person and his character. I felt like this is someone I could have a partnership with and who I would have great confidence in to run our defense.

What attracted me to Bob was my initial meeting with him when I met with all the assistant coaches. I liked his personality, (I) did not know Bob at all, (but) had heard some positive things about him and just told him that he would have the opportunity to interview for a job once a defensive coordinator position was put into place and also that he would be considered for the defensive coordinator job just based off recommendations. He just impressed me.

I was very sensitive to the fact of going with four coordinators in four years in the past. As the week went on, I was able to watch more and more defensive film with the other candidates and with Bob and it was clearly evident that the defense was growing as the season went on. A foundation was built, you could see the defensive players playing with a lot more confidence and understanding of the scheme, so those were definitely factors in my decision.

At the beginning, we were in our 100 press which lets us get a lot of hands on the ball and that gave us a lot of momentum, and we went from there.

We knew that they were 0-5 in conference, but we didn't take that for granted.

Our players are the organization's most important investment. They already have some of the finest resources and traditions in all of sports, but they also need people to equal those standards. Rock is without a doubt one of those people. He's the best person for this job, and I consider this position as important as any on my staff. I've seen first-hand what he can do with professional athletes. Our players will be impressed.

I'm not putting any timetable on that. I think it's important to hire slow. I'm more concerned with getting the right combination of people, Packer People, the thing that we talked about before. I'm not putting a timetable on it. I'm going to make sure it's right.

Am I going to meet with Brett this week? I have no scheduled meeting with Brett.

Well, he doesn't have to make a decision today.

The Monday mornings now, they add up. I went through it myself. Definitely. That's why I think he needs to get away. I think he needs to go out in the woods with his chain saw and cut trees down and keep doing what he's doing. He needs to answer that question, because if it's not in here (his heart) then it's not going to be right for him and it's not going to be right for everybody.
