This was one of the nights when we put a lot of people in motion. It's part of our offensive scheme. But we want to be aggressive defensively and pitching, too.

Our pitchers are getting stronger as the year goes on and he is part of that. We wanted to work ahead in the count, pound the strike zone and be the aggressor.

We were swinging the bats the whole game, putting it in play. When Coppola hit it out, they saw he got elevation, and suddenly the groundouts turned into line drives.

We did a nice job of putting our game plan in motion the first couple of innings then we adjusted in the fourth inning as they changed up.

All three pitchers we threw (Monday) did a good job. Pat kept us in the game and Tommy got us out of a jam and Robby did a nice job of finishing up. Our young guys needed to step up and they did a nice job of getting us through the game.

It's good for us. The thing about it is, we want to play competition like that to prepare us for down the road. We want to play a schedule like that so we can make a run when the playoffs start.

We were not prepared to execute defensively. That's the name of the game. We have success when we can play defense.

It's a lot easier to play with a lead -- there's not as much panic. You can play more aggressive and wide open.

We got what we needed out of this. We played some good clubs and got prepared to make a run at the end.

We put good aluminum on the ball. But we were flat. It was completely opposite of how we were last week.

I never thought I'd ever go to a Lawrence road game.
