Tim told me that the car had to be done by July 2 for John's class reunion. That gave me 47 calendar days to restore the car from bare frame to a completed car. Let me tell you, there were days that I didn't think it was going to happen.

There were many days that I worked late into the night to get that car finished in time, ... but at 5 p.m. on July 1, the car was started, tuned, and John drove it home. We had worked over 480 man-hours, but it was all worth it to see the smile on John's face. To work on a car like this is a dream.

John had kept the car garaged most of the time, but as with most Model A's, the floor pans and lower three inches of the body were rusted beyond repair and had to be replaced. My brother, Mike, helped me to restore the car as well. He stripped the entire car to bare metal, and then I welded in 13 different body panels to replace the rotted areas. Being 75 years old, the car had many dings and dents that had to be straightened.

He pitched without his best stuff and threw some good pitches. What was impressive for a young pitcher was that he kept composed and threw pitches.
