I talked to him last night after the game and he's still in a lot of pain with his foot. I guess he's had this in the past and he's missed some time. He felt like he was going to need some time with it. I asked him if he was opposed to the DL and he basically said that he was probably going to need more time than it would be good for the team. It was pretty much a no-brainer at that point.

I thought they'd send [Ruben] Sierra and try to win the game with a homer. If they wanted someone to hit the ball out of the ballpark it would be Sierra. The homer is the last thing I thought would happen. But give Crosby credit, it was no cheapie.

He's such a valuable kid I'd rather put somebody there I know is ready. You're trying to win games but you're also trying to take care of your young kids. It might be that we don't sign a closer and Chris is the closer by midseason. But it's an awful lot to expect of a youngster.

I think we're doing everything we can. I just wish we were winning. I don't like it at all.

I'm sure there was a lot of stuff that contributed to his lack of production for us. He's certainly in good shape and hits the ball well in batting practice. It just didn't happen for him.

He went about his business, probably too much, hustled all the time for us. He was a pleasure to be around and gave you 150 percent all the time. ... He did all the things a good teammate is supposed to do.
