Actually, we were 10th in the league in days missed. And while that is unacceptable -- traditionally we've been among the best -- the reality was, in our division, we were competing against teams more injured than we were.

The Dodgers had 1,200 days missed, the Diamondbacks 1,000. But while injuries did play a huge part last year for us, we don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

We're going to play a lot off of what Barry tells us, because he's the only one who knows how his knee is going to feel. It's always going to be a day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to- month thing. You can't help but be pleased that he came here, he did some good stuff, he left, and we'll see how it is tomorrow.

One day at a time, one week at a time, one month at a time. That's how we're going to do it all year. We're not going to try to look too far ahead. Each day he's going to come in and tell us how he's coming along.

He threw today in the back field and felt much better than yesterday.

He took a swing in BP today and felt a twinge in his left elbow. We're going to evaluate it as the day goes on. We don't really have any more information than that.

He's been battling it for a week to 10 days. We don't anticipate it being a big issue. If this was the regular season you wouldn't even know about it. With an off-day and everything, we could afford to give him some rest.

His knee looks good. It has looked good for a while, so we'll see how he comes out of this and we'll get him into a major-league game as soon as we can. We'll watch him, but things are going the way we anticipated. He's got plenty of time to get his innings in between now and Opening Day.

He threw one inning as planned with no difficulty. He also threw off the mound on Saturday with a full bullpen [session] without any problems. We decided to get him in a Minor League game first, just to make sure, and the knee looked good.

His knee has looked good for a while, and things are going the way we anticipated. He has plenty of time to get his innings in before Opening Day.

Overall, we're just real pleased with how this has gone so far. He looked good and has looked good for a while.

It doesn't look all that bad, but obviously he's out of the lineup.

You always look at stuff like that, but that was seven or eight years ago. He's had absolutely no problems with that since. That's pretty much ancient history.

He was put on anti-inflammatory medication and this morning he is much, much, much improved. . . . The swelling was completely gone and he had full motion and no pain. I really didn't expect it to turn around that quickly, but that's what we were hoping for.

I think we're going to take one day at a time. I think that if he does what we expect him to do this year, no one's going to look back and say whether he missed a spring training game or not.
