Our league took a hit from people early because we had so many players graduate and so many players leave early (for the NBA), but this was a league with a lot of young talent and with some outstanding coaches. Our league improved as the year went along, and with two teams in the Final Four, I think we've proven ourselves to be a lot better league than people thought we'd be.

He's earned this opportunity with the way that club's responded to him in terms of his leadership on the field and in the clubhouse. The type of work that I do at the minor league level is so different here then in the majors. Here, it's about creating a wonderful atmosphere for the players. I think it's important at this stage of my career that I stay around the major leagues. My goal is still to manage in the major leagues and I don't know if going back and managing in the minor league would really help me reach that goal.

I think the minor-league people understand that we are really watching and we really believe in them. We believe in growing our own from our own soil. I think that's been made very obvious to the minor-league side.

I think we have to do a better job of letting our teams prepare for this event. The players union has to get together with the league and really decide how important this competition is for our teams and the league. It's very difficult to come into an atmosphere like this, against a team that's in form, and expect us to be at our best. Our league wants to win CONCACAF championships, and we're good enough. We have to give ourselves a better chance.

We want to see minor league umpires working on the field rather than just warm bodies. Minor league umpires are the people that are trained to do the job and protect the integrity of the game. They're trained professionals.
